Ballast/balance/weight

Hello, I'm doing my first home build and in fact it's my first boat. I know not from boats. The boat that I'm building is about 20-24 inches long and about 6" wide. I'm planning on putting about 2lbs (two traxxas nimh 1/16 batteries) in the back of the boat and I'm wondering what I should do in the way of balancing out the hull so I'm not sinking on the maiden voyage. Just FYI I'm planning on running a velineon vxl-3m system with series connector. If you need pictures I'm sure I can post some later but if anybody has any insight/advice/words of wisdom all of it would be appreciated.
