I need help in securing a 12S2P battery setup in my 58" Segad catamaran. I've considered building (2) 1/4" ash plywood boxes with velcro straps for both sponsons. But I hope someone can show pics of how to best secure batteries & or battery boxes in a cat. Help, please. JIM

With batteries so long you have a lot of surface there, with industrial strength velcro you could easily velcro the batteries to the hull I have seen that in few threads were the they run the batteries in the center. If your putting them in the sponsons OSE has some carbon fiber battery trays(you might need two per side ) you can epoxy into the sponsons then you can put velcro on the trays and your battery and use a strap around the tray and battery for a belt and suspenders approach. -
Jim, I realize that this was done on a mono, but maybe it can give some inspiration. I made the boxes from 1/4" ply .To secure the batteries I stapled 2" non-adhesive velcro with heavy-duty staples to the sides of the boxes and used 24 hr. set epoxy to glue them down.

LOCKK, PROPERCHOPPER & LENNY. Here are a couple of pics of my Segad LIPO layout. I bought some ash plywood from Hobby People & was going to make battery boxes similar to what PROPERCHOPPED showed & mount them to the sponsons w/polyester resin. I was hoping to find some double sided velcro (attaches to itself) like a wrist watch band & run it thru slots cut into the boxes. But I like PROPERCHOPPER's setup and I have a roll of 2" industrial strength velcro like his.
Thanks guys.JIM MARCUM: NAMBA 777; EX? SoCal FE Racers Club; D-19; Official 2012 NAMBA FE Nationals Rescue Diver; Purple Heart Viet Nam Vet; Professional SCUBA/HOOKA Diver, KELCO, 1973-1978; BBA 1978, Magna Cum Laude; MBA 1980 w/honors; Retired DOD GS1102-12 Contract SpecialistComment

That was the Esmeralda, it's a Chilean training ship one of the largest square riggers in the world. It was visiting San Diego last month. Here's more pics (got carried away on the upload). I have 10 full sized boats (none working) & a Hobbie 16 sailboat. I raced sail cats for a few years & was Captain of the Newport Beach Aqua Cat sailing Club in the mid 60s. Also was the Senior Diver for KELCO Co. a now defunct giant kelp harvesting company. In 5 years I made almost 2000 SCUBA dives & spent 100s of hours using HOOKA, & was captain of a 50' dive boat & crew of 4 full time divers. We worked the kelp forrests controlling sea urchins, cutting out competitive sea weeds, transplanting kelp & conducting underwarer surveys with Scippts Institutute of Oceanography & the CA Department of Fish & Game. It was the best job I ever had.Last edited by JIM MARCUM; 08-28-2011, 02:46 PM.JIM MARCUM: NAMBA 777; EX?
