    What did I do wrong?

Ok I have a vs 1 with ul 1 power with a 42x55 prop s&b and a hyperformance 3.5 bullet drive. Batt is a turnigy 4s 5000mah 40c. I put stp atf 50/50 mix in the ob put the boat in the water it ran great for 1 min 30 sec and then it stopped about 10 ft off shore got it back and opened it up checked temps . Esc was 135. Motor was 185!!!! Batt under 100. Pretty sure I burned up the motor. So I pulled off the motor and the 50/50 mix for ob came out of the motor. The mix inside the ob was milky color ....anyhelp would be great ty

You don't want to use so much lube that it goes up into the motor. A few shots are all you need.

    You fried the motor.

Some home-made lube mixes are not appropriate in an OB. I am having a tough time envisioning how a whole lot of lube got into the motor, but that could easily have over-heated it. While I use 75W gear oil on all my IB flex cables, I only used flex cable grease in my OBs, just enough to coat the cable well.

It's not hard at all to over lube the shaft. I've done it myself on occasion. There is a hole on the side of the foot where you inject the lube, two or three shots are all that is needed. You start pumping 7 or 8 shots into the foot and it's all going to go up into the motor. One trick if you are using the Hyperformance adapter, is drilling a 5/32 hole in the side.

As far as what type of lube, it should not be thick. I use slick 50, others use Marvel Mystery oil, some use ATF. You do not want a 'grease' type lube on a o/b lower unit.

NOTE* Lube recommendations assume you race, ie..., lube before each heat. for sport boating you may want something that will last longer between re-application.

I'm pretty sure hyperformance recommends something simular to whqt I used on the back of their package of the bullet drive I couldn't find it on there web site . I'm sure I overfilled it it was running out the lube hole.

Also, since the lube was a milky color, that means that water got mixed in with it. Somehow, somewhere, water got in and added to the amount of lube you already had in the bullet drive almost certainly causing (or adding to) the overabundance of lube in the lower unit.

Water mixing with the lube is normal.
