Do you prefer trigger & wheel tx over twin stick tx & why.

Im looking for a new radio,Here in the UK most boaters seem to use twin stick (aero tx ) But in the USA from what ive seen & heard trigger & wheel (car type tx ) look to be more popular. A lot of friends ive asked that use twin stick say they cant get on with trigger & wheel tx, Ive used both so can get on with both. Whats your opinions with either & why you prefer one over the other. Thanks Martin.

Sticks for me, because I'm used to sticks and scared of change.

I think a lot are frightened of change if your use to a certain type over a long period.I must admit i do like the trigger tx in as much as you can hold it one handed & have full control of the throttle when bending down bringing boat right up to the bank & then lifting the boat out where as its more difficult with twin stick needing 2 hands on the tx to hold it, Ive done it with 1 hand but you have to be carefull the tx dosnt slip in your hand whilst using a little throttle as ive nugged the side a few times doing this especialy where theirs no spring return on the stick only ratched which you have to physically pull down to close throttle where as the trigger is simple being sprung. You just release.

I can drive either, but I find my driving is more precise with the stick radio.

I use both. And as far as driving either one is fine with me. The 2ch boat I use a wheel type and that boat is single drive. My other boat that's a twin drive cat I use the stick radio. I have each throttle individual one on each stick. I have program mixes that tie both throttles together so I can use either stick. Then I have another mix so one motor speeds up while the other slows down for turning. Then yet another mix for making that system tie into the rudder. It's more complex but way more fun to drive.

I started with stick radios on old tycos and then had a Futaba attack stick radio when I got my first hobby-grade truck. After that, the traxxas revolution had me using pistol-grip radios up until last year again when I started flying. A full year of flying and I decided to dip into boats and my natural reaction was to back to pistol grip.

So for me, it's pistol-grip for surface applications, and sticks for air.

I could certainly use a stick radio for trucks and boats too, but I do prefer the trigger and wheel feel.

Also, I'm not sure which stick radios have the throttle stick on a spring or not. My air tx's don't. so I'd need to install one in order to have it spring back to neutral, and to more easily set up reverse on one.

Pistol for me, also the quality is important, some car radios may cause you problems for a marine application.

Yes i have found on the stick throttle that its more linear on exceleration & find the trigger throttle to be more aggressive on exceleration. Possibly just me being a bit to heavy on the trigger.

Accept when your bringing the boat in & its only 3feet from the bank & your a bit heavy on the throttle & split a brand new hull open. Thinking about it that was with a stick tx that didnt have a spring return on the throttle & relied on you pulling the stick down all the way which i forgot to do. This was one of the reasons im thinking of going trigger type tx.

Trigger and wheel tx for me with boats just feels more comfortable, more like driving. Stick for planes, used to fly rc planes many years ago and was so used to a stick tx that at first when I got into boats I wasn't sure how the trigger and wheel would feel, now its the only way for boats and me.

For me its pistol Pete , I am way more comfortable but I come from the buggy end of the hobby , you put me on a stick and you are guaranteed a crash
