My surge crusher. I planned on running 8s with an hv esc but the esc I used got out of sync with it so I used it on 6s. That one is probably a little small for your shockwave tho.

That motor is on the small side for a 36" hull with just 1200 watts recommended output. You can over-amp it but that may cause high temps and shorten its life. I'd shoot for a larger motor, more like a 600-size outrunner. But that's just me.

That 600 motor would be very sufficient. You would have to run a larger prop to get decent speed on 4s........maybe in the 45-48mm range. Not sure what your speed goal is, but the 500 motor should work with a smaller prop and speed goals in the lower 30's. The variable here is what speeds you want............

Thinking low 40 should be fun, with good run time and cool setup.

For 4S you need to be in the 1800-2200KV range. However, that being said, Outrunner motors deliver a LOT more torque than the inrunners we typically use. Therefore, you should be able to swing a bigger prop.

Whichever you choose, keep us posted! I'm always wanting to learn more about the application of Outrunners in boats. How do you plan to water cool it?

Old school copper tubing wrap and water cooled motor mount,
Still trying to think out of the box.

                          Thanks for any input.
