    Rio test thread.

She's completely RTR. I will be hitting the water 11AM sharp tomorrow morning. Gps and possibly dpr on board. I did cut the extra control horn off the right rudder and took 3/4s of an inch off the strut bracket. The rudders are going need trimming. The HW may need other mods also we will see what happens. I'll be on 4s-2p a K45 prop & 14.4v drill motor from Doozie. I'm crossing my fingers on this one.

Oh God if that thing runs as good as it looks my visa card is in trouble. What's the cost of putting something like that on the water?

The most expensive part of this project was the hardware. I traded about 250 bucks worth of fun stuff for it to be custom machined. The rest was cheap. I believe the hull is on sale for 120. I have a jeti esc I guess runs about 75 used, a decent steering servo and a free drill motor. You can be on the water useing diffrent HW and the 700sc for just over 200 I bet. I have a diffrent HW set I had made for this hull. If you decide to build one look me up .

The hardware really does look good and it fits with the whole "offshore racing" look of the boat. Will be interested in how it runs good luck!

Well the result of this first test is not good. I have no video as the boat is undrivable. I'll run it by the numbers here.

                    First run
K45 packs 2 inches from the stern strut level.
                    Result:
Massive Massive torque roll. Anything over 1/4 throttle and the boat snapped right on to the hatch.

                    Second run
K42 same pack location up on the strut a tiny bit.

After a 5 minute wait for it to drift back in I checked the rudder alinment again and found something that I had to ajust on but was unable to completely fix. On went a K42 pulled the strut out of the water a little and back in she went.
                    Result:
Just over 1/4 throttle and she snapped over again. I was able to get it on plane by babying the crap out of it. When upright the cg looked good. it turned really well also.

                    Third run
                    Another drift in wait.
K40 same setup but I pulled the left rudder.
I wanted to see if the rudder issue was causing this roll problem.
                    Result:
In it went and I was able to get 1/2 throttle. Anything after that it would start rolling again. Now I'm down to a 40mm prop. As the gps reads 18 & change .

                    Last run
I forgot to put my x637 in the box. I when for a long shot with a v937 still on the single rudder. No roll what so ever but also barley on plane. It never really bit & I didn't expect it would.

In conclusion I am pretty much out of ideas with this setup. Running smaller props will probaly be futile because of the power system I have chosen. I am open to ANY suggestions. I am not oposed to anything. I just want this hull to run decent. If missed anything & more data is needed ask. I am not quiting n this one.

                      Bummer, she looks so good.

Maybe try a 440/3 or even the next smaller size 3 blader (437/3?). You should keep the lower torque roll of the K40, but with more thrust.

Also, is everything mounted really low in the hull? It looks pretty narrow, so any weight high or towards the edges would not help.

I think the true solution would be a higher revving motor with small props. If you want to stay brushed, see if you can find a Plett 290/30/4.

                      Best of luck
                      Scott

                        re :

Not to worry !! We need a lower cg ! A smaller prop would reduce torque roll as well. Here's how I COMPLETELY got rid of chine-wobble- the second cousin of torque roll , on my Titan : [may sound somewhat silly, but now I have a super-competative P-Offshore boat that tracks like a bullet] : I took a small sandwich bag & filled it half full of lead bb's that I got from Tower as ballast for my Coast Guard boat. Wrapped it in duct tape & placed on keel centerline front-to-back. Shazam !! While the extra weight may slow 'ya down a bit, this may cure the prob in conjunction with a smaller prop. Another thought ; if the prop is fully submerged at low speeds, the torque-reaction is doubled until it gets the top half up & out of the water. Not sure how to cure this other than raising the strut, but it's a thought. Also, my 700SC drifter with a 700SC on 16 IB's [probably like 4S lipos] ran 37 mph with an X 637. Small props can go fast. A 640 or 642 may work. Keep tryin' , Bro ! We're pullin for 'ya !

Thanks for the input Scott. I have some smaller props and just scored a Plett 30 5t. I may try a drop down proshaft and I'm mulling over a diffrent hardware configuration. I need to think about it and consider some diffrent options on the HW.

Sounds good props. The plett and smaller props will help I'm sure. I need to get some rudder out of the water also. That 637 I have may just do the trick!!. I'm not finished yet.
