Mounting hardware to the hull- lets talk about position

When you mount hardware to a mono-

How do you figure where the stinger should mount vertically?

Rudder position. How far center distance should it be from centerline of the boat? The prop sizes probably play a part here- Im looking into 45mm-47mm prop area. When the rudder is perpendicular to the transom, should there be 1/4" or so between it and the prop blade?

Im sure some of this depends on the size of the boat. Im building a 32" Pursuit hull. Im also trying to keep a record of it in the build section to help others out when they go to build.

Thanks for any and all advice/help.

The stinger should be about 1/8" above the bottom of the boat.
Rudder should be as close to center, mock up with largest prop you will be using and allow a little bit of room after that.

Wrong! depends on the hull, it's kinda a guessing game as some hulls like to run a bit deeper in the water than others, also depends on hull size!
My SV is about 3/16, my 30" mono is about 1/4", my nitro mono is about the same, I had to rise the stinger on that one from it's original location, aired out to much with the prop lower.
At 1/8 you'd be way too low. Probably end up into the laminate on the bottom!
Take advise from people who have actually built and set up mono! I've done a few over the years.
What hull? somebody has probably done one and has the right numbers.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I have to agree with boater guy. I built my Titan 29 this way and it runs nice. I left about 2-3mm from bottom of hull and bottom of stinger

I have the bigger version of the Pursuit, The 41" Osprey & from the ride pad up to the bottom of the stinger it around 1/8".

I have a couple monos with the strut flush with the bottom of the boat. So don't say it can't be done or can't work. My Titan has raced that way since 2005. That one works great that way. You do have to be mindful of the center of gravity on that though.

It really does depend on the boat. I don't personally know jack about the Pursuit. Be patient. Someone here will have set one up successfully.

OK sounds like I will wait for further input.

Sounds like one of those things that are trial and error hull specific. I dont have room for trial and error. If I fubar this hull its over for me (on this project).

The reason I don't really like stingers, major change to alter the prop depth, My SV is the only boat I haven't played with depth searching for the optimal tune and I think it would run better if the stinger was a bit higher, With my one mono I have a ton of holes in trans from moving it up higher letting the hull settle a little more, the violent chine walk went away and now I can holt WOT through the end of the straight where I was having to let off at about 3/4 before. I also was able to take the trim tabs right off that boat.
The boat looks like it runs wetter but it is far quicker around a course now, it just never seems to get out of shape.
Trying a wet well design on a new build, kinds like what the Impulse comes with for a setup, at least from the pictures I've seen of it.

If anyone has a pursuit and could give me some mounting dimensions that would be awesome!

Center of stuffing tube hole from bottom of v

Center of rudder to centerline of boat

Top of rudder bracket to top of hull as if it was flat

These dims will allow me to proceed without guessing. Which is what I would like to avoid.

                    Thanks guys!

I have an "original" built one from HK. And if that one is set up right? I have no clue as Im all new into boating. But if ur interested in those numbers
I can measure it up for u.... The boat goes great and is pretty quick in turns. But for SAW racing I think it goes a bit wet right now. But Im going to
play with a couple of settings to get more speed.

Regarding stinger vertical position, like a few others have stated, it depends. And the "right" position is NOT always the same for the same hull. Stinger depth will depend on the boat's speed, CG, prop size/characteristics and even how you run the boat/water conditions. Way too many variables to say one specific measurement is "right". I bet that some of the boats referred to in posts above would run a little better if the owners could adjust the stinger height to match conditions instead of cranking on trim tabs or shifting packs fore or aft.

The best method is to mount the stinger so it can be raised or lowered 1/8", some stingers have this adjustability built-in. This means cutting a slot in the transon or using a wet well. On smaller boats I prefer the slot, covered with a piece of plastic on the inside and sealed with silicon. Today I prefer a regular strut on monos, but have had a number of stinger monos. I have had to move the stinger position up or down on all of them to get the best . You be the judge.
