    Esc?

I just took my tunnel out for the first run yesterday I am running a 4082 1500kv with a swordfish 200a esc on 5s with 42x55. All timing low. What was strange is that the esc was overheating and shutting down. It was about 165F after only 2 min of driving do these run hot? Why would it be overheating on a small prop and timings low? Thanks

What is "low" timing? It should be 15 degrees.

If the timing is low would it make the esc run hotter

Im not sure about the esc running hotter, but I know the motor will. I know you said nothing about the motor getting hot, but you have a "y" wind motor and the timing should be set to 15 degrees. Set the timing to that and run it. I dont think the prop is too big. Does it run wet? If so, everything would get hot.

How hot is the ambient temperature? How hot is the surface water in your pond? You cannot get away with setups that were fine at 60*F when the summer air is 95+ and the water not much cooler.

Poor alignment of the motor/shaft, insufficient lube on the cable, and long motor wires will stress an ESP a bunch.

What is 15 degrees on a swordfish all I am seeing is high middle low auto. I got mine at auto. What does the y mean on the motor? The motor is all good. I have the esc in a really tight spot do you think that would make a difference? I do live in so cal so it is warm. Today I think was 105. The lake I drive on is also warm it's not refreshing when you go for a swim

Auto timing is probably fine. The "Y" is the wind of the motor, "Y" motors like more timing that most "D" motors do. A crammed-in, insulated ESC might thermal sooner than one set up in the open.

A lot depends on how you drive the boat, particularly in hot weather. Lots of on and off throttle builds up heat fast in the ESC. The same for lots of part throttle, that heats up an ESC quickly, especially in hot weather. We often have to prop down a bit in hot weather, just as nitro and gas guys have to lean out the needle. You already are running a kinda smallish prop.

Well went to go try it out again this time it never turned on. messed with the wires going to motor no beeps nothing. I do need to check all the bullets under shrink wrap but what I felt I seen they are fine. The first time I hooked it all up before I ever ran the set up I had trouble getting everything to work. When it did work the beeps where very quite then loud and then quite. Pretty much ever since I been messing with this thing I have had trouble. It is all brand new. 4082 1600 kv. Swordfish 200a. Any suggestions. I only driven once
