    scorpion Motor Question

Just got a scorpion 4020 1390kv rated at 1890 continous watts and 90 amps. What would be a good application for it on 5 or 6 s? It is rated for 6s max.

    5s - 25850

    6s -30850

On paper it has the same specs as a neu 1521 2y by that I mean the new is 1780watts continuous but is a 4 pole inrunner vs the 8 pole outrunner

surprised that is rated at 6S max, 30k RPM is still a little low, look for a bigger prop.

      A bigger prop than what?
Your rpm range is ideal for 6s, that would be a killer 6s motor for a mono! Even though I have one I'm just not a big cat fan, tunnels are more fun!
Wonder if it would be too big to go on a 7.5cc lower and make a big tunnel hull!
Unless you have the experience I'd say a rigger would be about the only one to scratch off the list, you'd be pretty much on your own for design, this is where experience come in!
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Actually, the Kv of your motor is closer to a 1521/2D, not a 1521/2Y. I have a Scorpion 4025/1100 and believe me it does not perform like a 1521/1.5Y. While my Neu 1521s will happily take 180 amps continuous, the Scorpion doesn't like much over 100 amps. I have run my 4025 at a logged 125 amps and it gets hot fast - and doesn't really put out more power than it does at 100 amps. This makes sense, the US distributor for Scorpion told me that once the 40xx motors hit 100 amps the windings are saturated and extra amps just go into making heat. These are torque motors, not high rpm motors - Scorpion doesn't recommend them running much over 30,000 rpm.

I run mine in a 34.5" SprintCat on 6S1P/4500 spinning an x450. It pulls about 100 amps and is happy pushing the boat in the mid-40s. It is a great sport motor and I love running it as such. Your Scorpion is slightly smaller than mine so a little less torque is available. It should still work well in a lightweight mono, cat or hydro hull in the 29" to 33" range. Just don't expect it to be a racing motor comparable to the Neu.
