FC 32" River Cat

Hi,
Any one got any tips on building a single motor FC 32" River Cat! I will be using a FC 3730 1600KV on 6s etti 150A esc to start with but,I think i wil have to change over to a T180 to get the best out of it ,will be my first cat build.

My first problem is what size and C rating packs should I be looking for this hull, 6/7 minutes run time
Do you think 2x 3s Nanos 4500mAh in series 6s 45c-90c would be to big, or to small

Any info would be great.

I used to use Nano Tech 45c-90c & thought they were pretty good over the previous 25c which were Overlander sport lipos, I now use the New Overlander Extreme Pro 60c - 80c. This new 60c Overlander is noticably faster than the Nano Techs.

That is not the motor to choose to get 7 minutes of run time with 6S1P. The high Kv motor can draw too many amps. If you want 7 minutes of run time with 4500 mAh packs you can only draw an average of 34 amps. Your motor will likely draw three times that amount or more, so you will have to use a lot of part throttle - and that is bad for the ESC. You will want more mAh capacity and/or a lower Kv motor. No problem with 6S, that is one way to get extended run times versus 4S, but you have to limit the draw.

if you were to build this hull, as a sport boat 50 mph + 5 minutes + what would you use , if you had a choice of 4s or 6s, setups, and any motor but limited with a etti 150A ESC
just trying to buy all the right setup before the hull turns up.

For 50-55 mph and 5 minutes of run time? There are several ways to go, here is what I'd do.

Motor: 1200-1400 Kv, either Feigao 13XL or Leopard 4074/1400 or Leopard 4082/1250 "budget" quality motors.
Packs: 6S1P with 6500 mAh cells would probably be good for 5 minutes at 75 amps average.
......Or 6S2P with 4000 mAh cells would probably be good for 5 minutes at 85 amps average or 6 minutes at 70 amps.
Props: Prather P225 and P230 work very well on this hull - although others will work too.

A lot depends on setup too, but these should give around 50 mph or a bit more using under 100 amps. This hull is pretty easy to push around, I bought the Skunkworks version (slightly different hatch) back in January and it runs very fast. Turning can be a challenge, but then I didn't build it for sharp turns...

I just need a good set of lipos
what C rating packs should I use for 6s2p 4500mAh setup?

just had a look at the Overlander and Thunder Powers OUCH! but all the wrong size ,I think!
I may have to stick in a set of Turnigy Nanotec or the 40c Zippys 5000
I'm not sure what's good and what's bad, I do like the nanos in my mono1 but they are only 25c 3s 4500

Any recommended packs to use, and a link would be helpful

,I would sooner pay a bit more,than buy twice

I don't use cheap packs so I cannot give any specific recommendations. But I would not get lower than 35C packs, more is better. Depending on how you mount the motor sliding a 6S pack into each sponson can be a challenge unless you notch the deck like below. Easy enough to do if required.

Does any one have a Prather worked prop either P225 or P230 they want to sell me?

If my eyes are right they are 45/90C 5000mah, it looks like the voltage is 11.1, so 3S. so 6S1p 45C 5000mah.

I was not sure if thet were 3s or 6s packs as the hull has been notched
would it not sink if they are 6s packs? must be 3s

That is the same hull you have-a FighterCat 32" River/Head of the River Apparation. If memory serves right, Neu doesnt make/sell lipos anymore.

Do you think this size of Carbon Fibre Cloth is big enough to reinforce the hull? In a 32" River Cat, or do I need bigger and lighter CF Cloth 220g
I don't have the hull yet to measure up

Quick update
going to run on the recommended setup 6s2p
Leopard 4076 1400kv and the etti 150A esc for now see how it goes
still a bit more to do but getting there
its my first ever cat build, so I have no idea watt to expect

First time out with my newly built Fighter cat 32"

42mm colbolt prop to start with

The throttle was not set up to good in the video so it was a bit snappy,have done a few tweaks to the prop angle and the cog, and sorted the throttle settings and its a different animal now
No heat issues and a great sport setup with great run time
also have the FC 3740 Out runner to try out but I don't think the etti is big enough
very happy next 45mm prop
