Pursuit questions, motor upgrade, hull reinforcement, etc...

Picked up a pursuit recently, and I really like it. It has a fsd 3660 1620kv motor, and the yellow shrink wrapped esc that appears to be sealed with some sort of white epoxy/glue. Runs decent on the stock prop, on 5s lipo. A bit slow on 4s. Not sure that the stock brass prop is, but it appears to be about 40mm in diameter, and looks to be less than 1.4 pitch. It does not have as much blade area as an octura x440, and no tounge to speak of either.

Pretty sure this prop on 5s is about the max the 3660 can handle, as it is getting warmer than I like. Not blazing hot, but certainly not cool. Stock esc seems to be fine, but it is not very progressive, and I doubt it has any programming?

Anyways, I have a neu 1521 1y in the motor drawer, as well as a hydra 180 hv that no one seems to want to buy. I would like speeds of around 45 - 50mph, and would like the boat to run my 4000mah 5s 40c lipos.

I have a x440 prop to start with, any suggestions of what prop size will give me the desired speed with my motor battery combo? This is a larger boat than I am used to, so should I go up in prop diameter and stay with 1.4 pitch props, or go to a 1.6 pitch prop and smaller diameter?

Wondering if I should reinforce the hull of this boat? The neu is heavy, and much more torquey than the fsd. I run in very calm water, a wide canal in my backyard. All I do is sport run, no racing.

I will say one thing, this boat is 10 times more stable than my supervee (super flip?)...

Thanks for all of the help guys.

i run a 4074 leopard 2200 in my pursuit and i dont think u need to reenforce the hull....the stock prop is a 42 mm i think....right now i am running 2 4cells in par with a m445 prop....runs at least mid to high 40's i think ( never timed it) just install the new motor and have fun....do u have the 4mm shaft or 3/16?

On 5s an m445 will get you in the high 40's, an x447 to 50+ with the 1521, thats with 2p in mind based on your 4000mah lipos.

Ok, good starter info. I am wondering if the 1521 might be a bit much for the stock esc. Plus I have no idea how to program it for lipo cutoff, so I have been running for a few mins then recharging the packs. I will throw the 1521 and the hydra in too. Pretty sure I have a 3/16 shaft, but will check as I would like to put a 1 piece flex in to easy maintanance chores.

Well, 2p of the 4000 cells in 5s will be a bit heavy. Maybe drop down to a pair of 3000 5s packs in parallel. Considering my current 5s are made from a 2s and a 3s real estate in the hull would be tight with all 4 packs, and I am not sure if I could balance it properly. Not opposed to buying new packs, these 40c sky lipos are great and cheap!

So 2 people have suggested larger diameter 1.4 pitch props, as opposed to 1.6 pitch. I had a feeling a larger diameter prop would be better for this larger boat.

Would there be any reason to not run the hydra hv 180 on 5s?

If your 3000mah packs are 35c or greater, 40c optimal, the 2p setup would be nice!

if you dont reinforce your hull you will over time get very small fractures in your gell coat but it wont affect anything its just cosmetic. fiberglass and epoxy resin works well, thats what i did especially since im running 2 5s 4400 mah packs right beside my motor. these boats dont mind the extra wieght, but the gel coat does.

Yers, I would use the sky lipo 3000mah 40c packs. 2 of those for 6000mah total should be good. I have a bunch of these sky 40c packs in various capacities and think they are great, especially considering the price!

Yeah, I have my doubts too. Seems to do fine with the 3660 1620kv motor, but I doubt it will handle anything larger... The hydra 180 will go in this boat with the neu.

If I decide to pull the motor mount I will add some glass to the hull. Not sure how the 1521 will fit with the stock motor mount.

Did a few more runs with 5s on this boat, played with the trim tabs, and the strut angle. Seemed to get the boat to air out much better, what cg should I shoot for, 30%? I read somewhere around 10" forward of the transmon was good too, which is about 30%...
