    Choosing the right boat

I have been lurking this forum for a bit now trying to get some inspiration and ideas for what i want to do, and how to do it, when it comes to building a fast and reliable boat. But the more i read the more confused i get, so i need some help to make up my mind and get going.

My goals are as I said to build a reliable and fairly fast boat. The areas I will drive in are a big lake and the sea. Will only be used for calm water situations, but can preferably handle water disturbances created by a breeze. I would like a boat with some size to it, maybe 35-42" range, either cat or mono. Been looking at hulls like Delta Force, Genesis and similar. Speed wise I would like to be able to hit 60 mph, but if this is a bit over the top anything close will do.

As for economy I don't have a set budget, but I would like to do it right rather then dirt cheap. The most expensive setup's are not an option at this stage as I would like to start out with something I can afford to mess around with and learn from, and rather do another build or upgrade later on if I catch the speed boat bug.

My experience level is pretty good when it comes to building, but I do not have any experience with fast boats. I have mostly done scale boats and touring cars so far on and off for the last 20'ish years. If you could point me in the right direction when it comes to the equipment, I will continue studying the build posts and guides on this and other forums until I get the setup right.

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't reccomend running in the sea, Electronics and salt water are a bad mix, but if you really have to then a large mono would be best suited to cope with any swell.
The Delta Force boats are great handling and for the setup you are after you'd want to run 6s lipo packs with a Neu motor, not sure what size as i don't have any experience in the 6s boats. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in now.
    Good luck

When running in salt water, always flush the cooling system out with fresh water after your done running. Never let salt water sit in the system.
As for hulls, the Delta Force Pirate is advertised at 35" and is actually just a hair under that. No big deal. This boat handles very well and is suited for both conditions you will run in. A good 6s set up would be a Castle 1717 1580kv motor, a 180 amp esc and two 3s 5000mah 40-50c packs in series for 6s1p. You can try a 2p set up, but I personally dont think its nessesary. Run this with a .187 flex or .098 wire drive with an X447/3 prop. You ll be right at 60mph and wont be over heating the motor/esc or packs. A Castle 1520 works in this hull, but, I think its just a bit too small.

          Thank you for great replies!

Fresh water is the preferred place to run, but our cabin is by the sea and its nice to have something to run when we are there. Been running scale boats there for several years, and we have a nice little pond in the river to run off the salt after we are done. Keep it clean and well lubed and its usually not a big problem :)

Do you have a good place to get the Castle 1717 motor since its not listed here on OSE? I keep seeing this motor pop up in several threads so i guess its a solid motor :)

Castle doesnt make the 1717 any longer. A lot of members here have them. Post a Want To Buy add and you ll get one. Another motor option is a Neu 1527/1.5/D 1500kv. Its a but pricey, but she ll move good with it.
