    radios

In looking for radios I see they are primarily 2.4 gHz.

I have two Futaba magnum FM radios. Do I need to upgrade and if so why?

We can't say if you need to upgrade or not. If the FMs are working well for you now, then I'd keep them unless you want to upgrade. The advantages for good 2.4 gig radios are:

    - No frequency conflicts with other R/C radios operating nearby. Not just from other boats, but cars runing a block away that you cannot see.
    - No crystals to mess with.
    - Fewer problems with interference, either from stray radio frequencies (pagers, etc.) or from the motor/ESC/Packs in your boat.
    - Shorter antennas, some of which do not neet to be outside the hull. This is great for scale boats where antennas spoil the look.

        Ohhhhh, no crystals.

Well I will keep my two FM's for my 2 kids boats and get a new mhz for me.

I see prices seem to be reasonable.

Do races still have impounds for radios if they are the new ones?

The regonal races in the Texas area usually impound only AM and FM radios. I have not been to a race which impounds 2.4 gig radios for a couple years. Can't say about other places.
