Boat setup help for twin monos.

I picked up two of these boats from a venom garage sale here in town. I plan to build both identical so my dad and i can race.

Sorry, im away from my house for the week, so dont have a cord for my digital camera to take pictures, but the only difference is that they have different struts on them. I was looking at hobbyking for a few setup options.

I would like to keep them single batt boats. I could use this motor below on 3s batts to give me about 28000 rpm which is almost at the 30k rule. I have a few 2s batts so if i can find a motor with the right kv it would be better. Is this motor overkill for such a small boat? Should i use a 28mm one?

Ive always wanted to try an outrunner just for kicks, but cant seem to find one with the right kv. Anyways, just trying to throw out some ideas before i go ahead and buy all the parts.

lookat the HK site under All outrunners and look for the Turnegy 450 H2218 2500KV outrunner. page 19 there.
that is the closest you will probably get to your 2600KV you are looking for.
They are made by Suppo model.

thanks for showing me those, maybe ill use the 3550kv one on 2s. Are these motors big enough for a 27" hull?

Since you have some 2s batts you could run this on 4s, it would really get it movin'!

on the FE calc, that 3550 motor on 2s with a 42mm prop at 1.6 pitch should reach 39. I am only looking for speeds of about 25-30 so i think that that outrunner may work. Am I looking at too hott of a setup with that prop and size of motor?

You won't turn that prop on that set up with out it going poof!
run it on 2 2s batteries in series, about 5000mah each and put a motor around 2000kv in it, those turnigy's you've linked to are an alright motor for what you pay for them.
My buddy John runs the 2300kv version of that motor in a 4s SV27 with a 438 3 blade prop. You would not want it to run any hotter than it does. You can touch the endbell of the motor for about 2-3 seconds after a run.
When you go down in voltage your amperage goes up, you need some very good high C rating batteries to run a single 2s pack, you will also need a higher rated esc!
Running 4s you will draw half the amperage you would be on 2s.
You really don't save money buy trying to run low voltage setups, because of the increased amp draws you need more expensive batteries and a higher rated esc which costs more. With the amperage the motor would be drawing I'm not sure how that motor would stand up to 2 or 3s usage.
A couple Zippy 2s 5000mah 25c packs in series would be ample for sport running in that boat.
Probably get around 3-4 minutes run time depending on the prop and how much everything heats up.
The cheaper you go the less efficient components will be and the more heat generated.
With boats more so than other rc vehicles you really do get what you pay for. There is no other aspect of the RC hobby that puts more stress on your equipment.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I agree with Husky, i suggested 4s due to balance reasons as well as amp draw...............the "formula" is not that a person can run a 3000kv on 2s or a 1500kv on 4s and it be equal in all aspects........the 2s will draw alot more amps and run hotter with all things being equal, prop etc.............i still think the motor i linked would work well.
