    Upgrading toy boat

    Hi all

I'm new to the forum, and have just bought a 28-29" toy boat that I wish to upgrade a bit.

The reasson I chose a toy boat over a more "adult" version, was that my two kids also have toy boats, and then we can have fun playing with it and upgrading all of them. Also I didn't want to be seen with a huge expensive boat while my kids only had small cheap toy boats to play with....

This is the boat i bought http://www.morfars.dk/rc/power-boat-p-5216.html

And this is the upgrade I planned on buying http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I'm finding it hard to find sizes and data on what to look for and what will fit my boat.

I know it's not going to win any racing contest, but if I can make go pretty fast and look really good i'm pleased....

Does this kit fit my boat in size and layout? or is there other alternatives that might be better?

    Welcome to OSE
It looks like you'll be setting it up with a single drive line. Which power plant (motor & ESC) will you hope to use? What power (batteries) will you hope to use?
That hardware will fit, but they don't list the diameter of the flex cable.
Be sure to install a transom doubler. I use construction paper and trim it down till I get a good fit, then I cut it out of Ply.

the hardware is fine and when you upgrade to a better hull you can reuse the hardware, were you planing on 2 or single drive

Yes it will be converted to single drive, it's cheaper that way. I have given it a lot of thought and have finally decided to go with one motor.

I haven't decided on a motor just yet, and the ESC will just have to be one that suits the motor.

The flex cable would be 4mm if I'm not mistaking!

My plan was to run on 11v lipo or life batteries, so another question is what motor and prop should I go for? I have to say I just love the looks of those three bladed surface props! But I don't know if that would be possible with this setup.

Transom doubler? Is that like a reinforcement of the back of the boat? I'm not quite into all the right terms yet. Also when I looks at motors I find the numbers and stuff confusing! But i suppose I will learn over time...

Welcome to OSE. If you are getting a toy boat, and since you're already on ebay, you can probably pick up something similar and a bit less. These are usually produced by Syma or NQD. The money you save could go towards a real hobby grade hull. Just my thought.

My first thought was actually to get a real fibreglass hull or ARTR boat of hobbyking or ebay, but then I thought about how stupid and selfish I would look with my 40" gas powered boat running my kids boats under while upsetting everyone with the noise (we sail in a very little pond allmost in the midle of the city), then I bought this toy boat :-) I also like the challenge of tweaking something like this into a decent fast boat, still looking a bit toy'ish.

Welcome Lars, the world of FE boating has many options, if I were in your shoes I would hand that boat you purchased down to one of your kids and purchase a decent RTR.

Welcome lars, I understand what you are saying about the challenge of tweaking something. Any chance of some pics?

A good motor for that would be a SV27 or BJ26 motor.

Domwilson, do you have a link to such motors? I can't seem to find them, and like I said before I have no clue yet on what those numbers mean....

                      Sundog, great link, thanks.

i got the same boat when i started. I had it about 2 weeks then i ordered a bj26. if you can afford the extra i would go with something like that, no need to mess around upgrading just put some batteries in and enjoy yourself. I belive the bj26 now comes with an offset rudder and 2.4ghz radio!

Make-a-wake, what did you use to fill the holes, and did you reinforce the hul?

Cool video and I really like the looks of this boat, got some nice curves to it...

                              Domwilson, Thank you.

Does anybody know of an online motor tutorial where I can get some knowledge on what's up and down with these motors. I sometimes see people refer to them by the "old" standard, 380, 540 and so on. But is a SV27 better / hotter than a BJ26? How do you tell?

Jamespl. just saw your post now... Didn't know BJ26 was actually a boat, thought it was the motor...
