ESC to motor 4mm or 5.5mm Bullets?

At what point voltage, amperage or watts do you determine you need larger connectors between the esc and motor. How much more is the load on 2 wires pos and neg from the battery to the esc than the 3 wires to a brushless motor? Larger connectors and lower guage wire of course better but whats the point of overkill?

Connector size is determined by the current. Since the heat generated is proportional to the resistance times the current squared, you need bigger (lower resistance) connectors pretty quickly. Even P spec power plants will melt the solder on the stock motor connectors. I never use smaller than 5.5 mm bullets on spec power plants and 8 mm connectors on systems with controllers that can handle over 200 amps. The current going through the battery connectors should be close enough to that through the motor connectors to require the same size connectors. All my Neu motors now have 8 mm connectors. Smaller ones get hot.
