Good tx?

Hello!

Anyone that can recommend a good transmitter for boat use. I have one that came with my Miss geico and it feels cheap, and probably is. I know it´s spektrum. But open to other brands also.

I want one that feels like quality when you hold it., maybe aluminium frame. Screen and lots of setting would also be cool.

I always though Spektrum & futaba were the best types of mid range (affordable) tx-rx about. it depends on your budget as to what you can afford, but i've not seen a metal cased tx in 20 years or so, the ones i have seen where home built!

But you need to ask yourself honestly (and come back down to earth) why do need so many functions/channels etc for to start with? The most channels i've ever used was 5 in a boating application and the spektrum DX5 & 6 filled thoses needs. You find they are all made of plastic now. i'm sure many here use cheap systems with no problems, if you have an expencive system when you do drop, its an expensive bang...

My new FE system will be a pistol grip system... and cost me a whopping £80 funny enough its the spektrum DX3.

Thanks, I was thinking about pistol grip tx´s. Well i see your point about many channels. I only need about max 3ch in a boat so that´s ok.

just google 3 channel RC transmitters and pick the one you like the most, but be sensible, when you start spending over £100 for a system it really has to be of use, when you up the channles and up the functions you also up the time it takes to setup, you find that tx's with lots of extra features are designed primary for aircraft & helicopters.

I don't buy cheap systems (£30or less), I do like some quality but I am also a realist with cash and have to justifie spending large amounts on rc control systems and have found spektrum, futaba & Hi-tec the best in my years of Rc when you want to keep to a budget.

Yeah, good points! I was looking at the Spektrum dx3s or dx3r/pro. But it seems more like a car tx with all the settings and stuff. What i would like is a possibility to save settings for different boats. So Dx3S or R can save 30-50 different models. Sticker says marine so it should work.

The spectrum dx6 has a 30 model storage but its a stick controller not a pistol grip, which is fine for my normal scale models, but for my FE i'm having a single controller and will set each boat up the same for throttle and steering, worse case is i have to flip the steering around by flicking the switch, but i never run a boat without checking rudder and throttle on the bench, never just throw it in the wet stuff and let it go, that's a total amateur mistake!

Most tx's are designed with Aircraft and cars in mind more then boats only the F14 system is dedicated to boating applications, but anything a car tx is designed for it perfect for simple boat controls, after all they really only go forward, back, left and right! anything else is extra functions.
