    Osprey from HK

Was just wondering about this hull, and the following setup and how it would go

    Osprey rtr hull + T180, 5S batteries with the 4074 2200kv?

Its apparantly got a 3/16 drive in it allready, but ive noticed that a lot of people seem to run 6S with lower KV motors on hulls similar to this

First off the Osprey is a big boat, A lot that built this boat use the Leopard 5692- 1340kv motor on 6s with T180 esc to keep costs lower & it worked quite well . The 4074 motor is to small for this boat & 2200kv on 5s is to high on a mono hull of this size. It does come with a 3/16" drive.

Yeah that motor does look pretty small in the hull, Im just abit unsure because ive got the genesis, but would also like a fairly big mono for when its a little bit rougher.
Or that i just want two boats for when one is awaiting parts I can use the other one!!

The 4074 motor is suited better in the Genesis as its 4" shorter & a lot narrower + the cat hull has a lot less resistance than a big mono when excellerating so amps draw should be lower. You really dont want to be in the 40,000 + rpm area with this size mono with a motor thats also to small for the Osprey.

Mate I have had the same problem with this boat. Mine had a Leo 4082/1450 in it setup for 8s. Uncontrollable was the end result. I have taken the large hook out of the bottom which is critical to good performance and installed a leo 5692/1090 still on 8s and it is a dream to drive. It will do 60mph all day and never get hot. As for having extra boats to play with my aim was to have enough that the enemy just gave up and let me buy what ever i want. Which is currently 12.

What you mean about the Hook>????

Would the 1340KV 5692 be ok on 6S or too slow?

The osprey is night and day better then the vanquish. I LOVE my Osprey. Stock motor too small like mentioned, I'm running a CC1717 on 6s2p in mine and love it.

Thats exactally what hook is, You need to fill the hull to get it flat. The hook holds the hull to the water & runs very wet. For a cheaper build a number have used the 5692-1340kv with T180 on 6s which i beleive in the build section theirs a build with vids using this motor & esc & it ran around 52mph. If you go with 8s you need to spend more money as the T180 esc is no good on this set up & will need to spend a lot more on a suitable esc + the extra cost of 8s lipos. It all depends on what budget you have to spend.

A stupid question what do you call a bump along the bottom of the hull. sort of a opposite of a 'hook'

Im now starting to think ill get a persuit and share hardware between it and the genesis!
I dunooo, Oh the decisions!, i really didnt want to end up spending $1000 to get the osprey built up though

Definitely better quality but with the same (or less) hook? That's the question for Grazacind.

A curve the other way ( convex ) is called a rocker which can cause porpoising.

My Osprey had a reasonable hook in the bottom which is not a major issue until you are reaching about 50mph. This is when the problem gets exaggerated as you go faster. It isn't difficult to fix using a bit of filler and sand it then a squirt from a spray pack to seal and away you go. My preference is to run higher voltages rather in my boats. 6s on a 1717 with a T180 would be a great boat to drive and 6s2p is simple to achieve. I currently run 8s2p which means 4 battery packs in the boat. Another thing is to get your center of gravity correct. I have mine so I can shift between 25% and 35% depending on water conditions. Pick up a 1717 or 5692/1340 and have heaps of fun. All of my boats are built around trying to reduce the amount packs I keep. So I have 8s and 4s boats using the same packs and 10s and 5s doing the same. Save a few dollars anyway. The Osprey is well worth the effort and with a bit effort it is fast great handling boat.

                              Cheers
