    Wanting to mod my Hammer!

I got an Aquacraft Hammer EP for Christmas and am now wanting to mod it! I ran it for the first time last weekend and it runs great. I would just like to get some more speed out of it.

First thing is the prop, what exactly should I do about that? Just give me suggestions on some good props for this boat.

I also have a Mamba Max 5700Kv brushless system and was wondering if I would be able to run this in my boat?

And if there are any other suggestions please please tell me! I had a Proboat Shockwave 26 EP before this but I never used it enough and never really got into it.

    Thanks in advance.

My brother and I hung a proboat steerable surface drive off the back of a hammer. It did make it faster but we had to add spin fins to make it drivable. Search for the hammer surfacedrive conversion thread.

To be honest I don't want to mess with it like that just yet. I've only been out with it once and I don't want it to be my last. lol

I don't blame ya. I have read that if you over power that stock hull it will spin out during straight line running. I think this is due to the downward angle of the prop. It creats lift under the stern and pushed the rudder up out of the watter enough to where it loses bite. I would stick to a mild upgrade. Something like a 19 turn brushed motor. I learned the expensive way that every hull has its limits. Boats don't have to be blistering fast to be fun

I see. I just wanted to use the Mamba because of basically no maintanance and just pure awesome. lol I can tone it down quite a bit. But if that's too much still then I'll just go with a decent 19 turn. But would you suggest a new prop?

          Thanks!

I would pick up a couple in the general size of what you have. Make sure the propshaft is 1/8th not somthing funky like 3mm. I think I have a hammer shaft around here. If I can dig it up i'll see what fits. Give me untill about 8 tonight.

I think the shaft is 3mm. If so, you can use the Octura 1/8" props. You just have to shim the shaft a bit. Tape or a thin gauge shrink tubing works well.

The shaft is 1/8". What about a 3 blade prop? Would that be any better? Either way is fine, as long as I get something better.

                  Hello everyone,
I have an interest in this mod myself, mine came with a 21 turn fireball and I ran it on 7 cells with stock prop, it did rather well, but the motor brushes gave out. So then I used a graupner speed 600 7.2 and put in 14 cells for about 30 seconds for laughs, then it went fast, the extra weight kept it stable but it was way too much for that motor, but on 7-8 cells with a 60 amp jeti esc it was nice. I have this graupner 700 9.6 that I would like to use but I believe I would need a better prop as well
rcmaster if you find a good one let us know
SJFE I was looking at your hammer mod as well, nice job, how fast?

Thanks Bob. I think we got close to 20 out of it. My brother has since converted it in to our recovery boat.

                      Good stuff to hear, bob.

SJFE, is there a certain brand you would recommend for the prop?

I would pull the stuffing tube and put a longer tube in the same spot to make it a surface drive that would work well, you could put an ajustable strut on it,like hydros and cats have it would be a modest upgrade.Ofcourse you would have to relocate the rudder but heck a FE hammer wow.I think i might do it

Does a smaller prop have more torque or speed and vice versa for a bigger prop? Or just what?

Hi rcmaster, the prop size i would suggest would be 35mm to 38mm overall diameter with overall pitch of 1.9in to 2.1in.A 2 blade prop would tend to have higher top speed (less drag) where a 3 blade prop would have better hole shot (acceleration) but more drag thus lower top speed.I would say try a octura y535 (this prop runs great on my sw26 with 19t) or x432, x435.Just do a search for octura prop chart there are more props around this size.Keep an eye on shaft diameter when choosing a prop.Good luck
