well i destroyed my brand new tacon 3674 1900kv

not sure what i did here...other than buy a cheap motor. i was running on 4s in my titan 29with an x445.timimg was set an 3 degrees. what did i do wrong? prolly a little too much prop. plus, i had just ordered some 5s packs to run it... now im gonna need to get a new motor. i haVe seaking 120 esc... so im gonna go with another 3674. im thinking a real leopard, but what kvzzzzzzzz? 1900 or 1700? i dont want to ruin another motor...especially on 5s

Is it a delta wind motor? If not the timing was set too low. Not sure if that would have anything to do with it burning up though. My next guess would be too much prop. Maybe Tacons are just crappy motors. I've never had one. Did you start with a smaller prop?

yeah i had run smaller props without issue. it was a 3.5d wind. kinda bummed. i shoulda just saved the 36 bux and bought the leopard to start. i think im gonna go for the 1700. on 5s that will be decent....

That should run good. I was curious about Tacon motors. I'm not now, though. Sorry for your loss.

1900kv...does that mean it was one of the green motors? The green ones are not the same as the orange ones. The orange ones seem to be leopard copys, and the green ones...well, aren't. That said, I ran a green 1900kv today with a s215 on 4s in my 26" mono and it did well. Everything stayed cool and it seemed to perform ok. There is definitely a power difference between the orange and green ones though.

I will make sure to post if mine ends up the same as yours. Today was the first run so its a bit early to tell.

Interesting... I run tacons in all my rigs. 4074 in my lst, 3650 in my slash and they both perform great. Got the 3674 1900kv on the way for my apparition. I think that was too much prop for that motor. I'm going to start with a x440 and slowly progress up depending on temps.

Looking at that magnet it could have been just a bad motor... it happens

I think we are just proving to ourselves that we get what we pay for, I'm just as guilty trying the budget route and it has come back to bite me. Dirt cheap motors, esc batteries, chinese flex shaft, whatever just don't hold up to boating use.
This is kind of ironic, yesterday somebody who posted in this thread took offense at me questioning certain Tacon motors, 12 hours later we have pictures of one that failed!
That sucks Dana, at least you can have a new motor delivered, I'm SOL until this mail strike is over!
Cheap, fast or reliable- choose two!
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

When you ran with the x445 prop did you take any temp readings?

No, I can tell you the batteries and esc and connectors were all just warm. No concern. I knew at the endbell the motor was getting hot. I had been running a tfl x444 was the same really. Sorry my temp gun needs a new battery, usually I do temp readings

The x445 should not have been an issue in my opinion. I run the M445 on my spec boats (granted, the M445 is somewhat detongued) with SV27 and UL-1 motors on 4S and they like it just fine.

I think you just got a bad motor. Another one like it may be just fine. I've had one NEU motor fail too. It's the price we pay for trying to milk that last little mph out of our stuff. I do know that NEU motors RARELY fail but you definitely pay a hefty price for them. Can't blame anyone for trying to get by for less. Several guys at our club are running the leopards and seem to be having very good luck with them.
