Shockwave 26 motor upgrade

HI, I was wondering what motor upgrade you guys would recommed for the shockwave 26?I was thinking graupner 600 bb sp 7.2.The boat comes stock with a 550 would this graupner motor increase speed without losing too much run time on 6 cells?Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Welcome to the forum :). The 600 may be a little to hot for your esc. You should look into a 22 to 19 turn motor. Trinity makes some nice 550s. Any lower number of turns will over heat both the motor & esc.

Thanks for the welcome.Do you know how many turns the graupner motor is?My proboat esc is rated at 15 turns, well so they say.Any certain series trinity motor better than others in boats?IE speed gem,monster,ect...

If it is rated at 15 turns then you should be ok with the 600 as far as I know, but I am not for sure on that.

The proboat ESC will not handel a 15 turn motor. I had the upgrade blue unit @ 150 degrees with a 19 turn motor in a small prop. It maybe ok due to the light weight of the hull but CHECK those temps offen.

I want to put in a Feigao 540L brushless into my Shockwave 26. Can anyone tell me which of the Feigao 540L's that offshore sells would be the correct one to use? My goal is to increase speed as much as possible. I'm afraid I don't even know if I should use a 5mm or 1/8" size shaft. Steve told me I would have to upgrad the ESC for this so I would like some advice on what would be a good choice for that as well.

The most suited speed controller for your situation would probaly be the hydra 120, as for the motor I would of thought that a 9 XL would of done the job. How many cells are you running ?

I am running 6 cells NiMh I might try a 7 cell hump pack. I wanted to stick with a motor that would use the same mount. Would a 9 XL fit the stock mount and allow room for a cooling jacket

Not too sure about the mount, the feigeo motors fit a 540 mount though. As for the motor a 9XL is not suited for 7 cells, you'll want a L series motor as you said earlier. You probaly want a higher turn L series motor though, probaly a 9 or 10.

On 7 cells I'd use a 8L with a hydra 120.

I did not realize the number of cells would change the motor I should get. Since I have a bunch already I will stick with 6 cells. If I stick with the 540 9L would I order the 5mm shaft or the 1/8" shaft for the shockwave 26?

I'd go with the 5mm shaft. if for no other reason than, the thrust bearings fit better(1/8" shaft flares out to 5mm just before entering the motor case, so you need to use some form of spacer with the thrust bearing).

OK so it seems I need the following:

1. Feigao 540 9L with 5mm shaft
2. Change my battery connectors to deans plugs
3. Get a new brushless ESC

Question here, the Hydra 120 is quite expensive. How would the X-Power Brushless 100a Esc that offshore sells work out? The 540 9L draws 68amps.

4. Add a battery pack for the receiver if the ESC has no BEC

What about prop? will the stock prop still work out or will the upgraded brushless motor require a prop upgrade?

minor correction, motor is rated at 68amps...that doesn't mean that it will not draw more than that. that said, 100 amp should work...
I'd start small with props then work my way up(how small depends on propshaft dia.)

I guess I will have to get a micrometer then because I have yet to find out what the prop shaft diameter is on the shockwave 26 :)

How do I know a prop will work with this drive system as far as mounting is concerned and is there some table or rule of thumb that helps me understand what props might work? Sorry to be such a newb here, I have yet to figure out how to size props.
