    Stupid Speedmaster strut question

    Hi,
Couple of dumb questions--- I've never used this strut before...

The bushing has a ridge which presses into the strut for a snug fit. Does that ridge get pressed into the flat side of the strut or the tapered side of the strut?

Also, I'm assuming the tapered side of the strut faces the transom.... let me know if I'm misguided here as well...

    Thanks,
    Chief

Not dumb questions. You are putting the strut together wrong. You need to run a length of 1/4" brass tubing through the strut from the front and stop it even with the aft end of the strut. You run this tubing through the bottom of the hull to the motor coupler, it is the stuffing tube for the 0.187" flex cable. No Teflon. The bushing is slipped onto the cable's solid shaft with the flare aft, then the cable is inserted into the strut. The bushing "floats" on the shaft between the drive dog and the back of the strut. You need to leave a minimum of 1/8" gap between the bushing flare and the drive dog....3/16" may be better depending on the length of the cable.

Yep, sharp side of the strut forward.

One other question-- the strut kit came with 2 brackets-- I only have room to install 1 of the brackets, else I'll need to do a lot of rework. Is 1 bracket strong enough?

I've been hoping that this question would get answered too, thanks guy's. I like the idea of only using 1/2 of the mounting bracket, I'll be running twins, if it really is strong enough, I'll be able to mount all the hardware the way I was hoping Thanks heaps

No disrespect to the dude that said yes but can anyone else 2nd his opinion? I'm going to start a harware placement on a build and if one strut bracket is enough, I'll be stoked.

Same here-- I could run a single speedmaster bracket up high, or I could remove the boat's trim tabs and run a stinger... second option seems safer...
