    I confess

it was recently brought to my attention that the boat I raced last year in N-2 was not strictly legal, and be extention niether is my N-2 offshore boat. so untill I rectify the problem I will not run them at official namba events. the problem; my battery packs do not conform to the power spec.s for N-2(N-2 power spec clearly states that the Maximum voltage is 7.5volts). it is well that I did not set any records as honour would compel me to give them up. since I doubt that my boats would be competetive running only 5cells...they will not be running nationally under the current rules.

I don't know how I missed this one. My question is what 2s or 6cell ni pack tests under 8.4 to 8v fully charged? Unless it's determined by the rating on the pack. Anyone care to educate me as to why 7.5 & not 8.4? Not that it really makes a diffrenct to me I'm just curious.

I gather (from various sources) that it should have read 'nominal voltage' like the rest of the higher classes(P and higher), some how it made it through a number of reviews before it was put to a vote... and yes that was my point, that there are no 6cell(nimh)/2s(Li) combos that are legal :). of course since there isn't a minimum voltage...one could run fewer cells :)

They use "nomimal" voltages for the power limits, based on 3.7V/cell for Lipo... Not sure exactly why, but that's the way it's done...

The wording for the N2 power limits is incorrect... correcting the wording is one of the Proposal items for the members to vote on... I guess if they vote it down, none of us will have legal N2 boats....

This is something that is being corrected in the upcoming proposal.

IMO-it was an oversite when the rule was amended. The NAMBA BOD should be able to correct the rulebook without another vote. Read all power classes and they are worded the same (and as intended), except for N-2.

          Anyone running N-2 in '07 (and now) was/is illegal...as it's worded.

That's stupid and in my opinion what keeps a lot of people out of the sport.
The rules are often anal and people like me don't cope well with them.
The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.

Ok the root of my problem was not understating the meaning of the term nominal. I should join just to cast my vote & be able to participate in these discussions with some legitimacy. It’s easy to say this sucks or that is wrong when you have no say or stake in an organization.

Keep in mind the NAMBA rulebook is meaningless unless you are talking about a NAMBA sanctioned race. Typically the Nat's.

Don't worry, this will get corrected. N-2 is probably the most popular power level class NAMBA has!

Oh, not a NAMBA member? please visit their website for membership information. They provide excellent insurance for us model boaters. Oh, there's also this little thing about an upcoming rule proposal that you may find interesting...

The club I will be running with is going to be with IMPBA not NAMBA so I will need to follow their rules which I'm sure have plenty of errors such as this. From what bI gather IMPBA is a more FE friendly club at least on this coast (FL).

most clubs around here are just interested in smokers (nitro and gas).

the impression I get from reading the IMPBA electric section is; that they are much more definative about just exactly what is allowed...two examples, power classes have both a max and a min length, the definition of a 'ROAR' stock '05' motor is multi-page... (I might have gotten the wrong impression, didn't sit down and study every word).

I have not gotten that far yet REX but I will build what ever it is they say I can race. I believe our club will have a micro hydro class and a tunnel class as well as a SV class.
with a club you can set your own specs loosely based on IMPBA rules. For example if we wish the allow stepped hulls in our mono class we can.

National rules are for national events(such as the 'Nats' or for national records. clubs can and do have 'house rules'/classes (ex. stock sv).
