I'm painting a boat with Dupli-colors Mirage 3 part paint system on Wed. I see Rustoleum also sells color change paint. I have spoken to Dupli-color about how to do it and exactly what is needed for the job.
I think it will give the boat a different look for sure. The color I have goes from a purple to a blue then green.

If you have the Dupli=color system they told me to scuff the boat with a Scotch-Brite red pad. Then clean the hull with the grease remover. Use the Adhesion promoter then the black base, color coat, then the clear coat. I'm using it on an ABS plastic cowl.

Dupli-color has a forum to ask questions. I had an answer to my questions by an admin. who I think works in their customer support department in a couple hours. Sent you a pm.
Where did you find the paint? I bought some a while ago at a local car parts chain at a discount sale. Figured I'd use it on something eventually. I have not seen any in any stores lately.

I was in the hardware today looking at colors for my MM and nearly bought the blue-purple Rustolium, I've used it to do a truck body on lexan, it come out pritty well but I think I may have applied too many coats of black and after a few good thrashings it cracked and started to chip off in places. Do you think it'll stick and flex enough on a hull?

I've used it on a fiberglass hull with good results.

In my experience with painting I've found it best to follow the instructions for the product, if they say use the adhesion promoter I'd spring the few bucks and use it. Costs more in the long run if you have to redo the paint job.
I've seen a number of home painted civics etc. that the paint seems to peel off the aftermarket ground effects packages, maybe the should have used the promoter? I don't know, not my car scene, I like hot rods and traditional rods.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Adhesion promoter makes stuff stick to plastic. If you are painting or priming abs yoou need to use it on the bare abs. Read directions and follow. Sometimes they call for washing plastic with warm soapwater to remove oils. I would use soapwater on abs not wax and grease removed. 25 yrs body shop experience. If you sand thru primer you need to retreat bare abs.

I'm planning on covering the bare hull with Zinsser Bull Eye 1.2.3 undercoat primer-sealer. I'm hoping that'll do the trick, yes/no?

The only one that has impressed me is HOK at $275 a quart.

I use ppg k200. Can be used as a high build primer or thinned down as a sealer. Available in quarts and needs to have catalyst (hardener ) .
