    ESC Set up Isuue?

I have a Genesis Cat that I am running a Leopard 4082 1450 KV, 6s2p, S235 prop 200amp Swordfish ESC. This keeps cutting out on me during the middle of the run. What I have found is at 24volts it cuts out. I looked at the programming and it is set up for 6s 3.0v min/cell. I set it down to 2.5v to see if this will get some longer run time but don't want to leave it like this. To me it looks like it thinks it is a 8S battery. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know if you can program the swordfish but if you can set it to 6S, then it will recognise it as 6S every time. It may just be hitting the LVC, how much are you putting back into your batts compared to how much you use.

2.5V is to low youll ruin the battery, Seem to remenber seeing if you go below 2.8v on a lipo itll ruin it & it wont come back when charged. Martin.

ESC is set for 6S. I know that 2.5v is way to low this is just for testing to see if the ESC LVC is bad. I am only able to use 1000mah from a 5000mah battery before it cuts out. So basically this runs maybe a half mile total distance before it cuts out. I can retrieve at about 1/4 throttle after it trips the LVC.

So you aren't running down the batteries, have you checked temps? it may be an esc overheat issue, and it drops like an LVC

That's what I am thinking. I'll find out in a couple hours. I have an old ETTI 150 amp.
I'll probably try that just wasn't sure about the current draw. I'll put a 442 prop and see what happens. Thanks

                  Scott.
It sounds like the same problem the Turnigy/seaking/hobbyking 180's experience sometimes.
The easiest way to test the thing is to switch off the LVC setting completely & take it for a run. If it easily runs longer than you are experiencing now, you know it is the same problem.
It's worth a try. But be careful not to overdischarge the packs. If that is the problem, all you need then is an external Lipo shield for protection or just time your runs.
                  Cheers.
                  Paul.

Hello Paul, Thanks for the advise. I tried this and it seemed to work. Now I am wondering if this is a problem with my transmitter or reciever. As long as the boat was within a 100 yards or meter which ever you prefer I ran great. there was one occasion I was maybe 150 yards away and it glitched on me. I am running a spectrum 2.4 Ghz DX35 I have never ran with before. My JR Racing XS3 PRO 75 MHz radio will take me 300 yards or more. Anyway I was able to discharge the batteries approx 2500 mah. I did not want to push it. I wll try again next weekend and see if it is the transmitter. I'll have the wave runner at the back of the house boat so I can retrive it.

some of the earlier spektrum radios had range problems in boats. In fact, at one point Spektrum announced that they didn't recommend their radio's use in boats! I remember seeing a lot of boats with radio problems when the spektrum first came out.

Not sure how they are now.

Are you using a marine receiver? Did you extend the antennae as high vertically as possible up a tube?
I've seen issues with a few brands of radio when people just stuffed the antennae into the hull yes even Futaba! Oh my I said I've seen Futaba have an issue! Let the lynching begin!
Any radio will have problems if you treat the antennae like an annoying piece of wire.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I keep wondering what technology is used on the Tactic receivers that they do not have an antenna!? I use them in all my boats except where there is too much carbon fiber, then an external antenna is necessary, so I have to use one of my Airtronics radios.

WHY can't the other radio manufacturers get on board with the no antenna receiver!!? I have never had a range or intermittent problem with a tactic. Secondly, and a bit off topic, WHY doesn't Tactic make a good transmitter with multi models, EPA, EXPO, Servo Speed, etc. I, for one, would be willing to pay a good price for one so I can continue to use the antennaless tactic receivers!

Just some of the little mysteries of life that drive me crazy!

Glad it solved the LVC problem for you Scott.
Can't help with the glitching problem though other than what had already been said by others. Extend the antenna up through the hull in a short tube. I sit the antennae up under the deck or the cowling in all my boats & have never had a problem with either my racing or sport boats. And that's with the cheap $20.00 HK set. Seven boats, seven receivers, one transmitter.
                            All the best.
                            Paul.
