    Solder

I got a question on solder. I do a decent job soldering but....... my solder is dull and is sort of a PIA to use. its 40/60 or 60/40. Anyway, I unsoldered a plug off a SV last night, the solder was bright and melted so easy and was a dream to work with. I resolderd that plug with the solder on it originally and it came out great. Does anyone got any suggestions on solder that flows and stays bright like this.

The solder I believe you use is for plumbing is it not? Did it take alot more heat to unsolder their job? They might me using some with more tin. I admit to using the same you do and it works well if you use plenty of flux. My solder joints get covered with shrink anyway so I dont have to look at them.

I use Deans racing solder from my local hobby store, its about 3 something for a roll, and it is really easy to use and its made for high current connections. There is also novak solder which I assume is just as good. If you go to your local hobby store, just ask them for some, its not very expensive.

I too like Deans. Flows well and makes a good joint.

I think I figured out whats wrong. I do have 60/40 from radio shack BUT I was using soldering paste/flux. I need to get a wider dia. to.

                solder

I use Deans as well and as long as you do not use acid core and you have the right heat the other stuff should work as well (I like the silver content and the fact that it is made for high current drain)
