    Vintage Super Hawaii

What's up boaters, this is Ty from Tekin. I'm pretty new to FE boats and will definitely browse through the forums to learn as much as I can!

I started years ago with a Traxxas Blast, threw in a 19T and ran it until it wouldn't plane anymore. Still have it on the shelf. Then I bought the Villain EX and still to this day thrash it out on the flat water and jump the wakes our lake gets on it. It has capsized plenty of times and sank a few times as well....

I have just started running my Venom P1 King of Shaves and it's not bad stock, doesn't steer very well with the inline rudder setup but I still have fun with it. Anyways, on the what I was really wanting to ask about.

I have an ABC Hobby Super Hawaii that I bought 100% original off eBay awhile back and would love to update it so I can run it reliably. I think for now I want to stick with the stock steerable outdrive setup (I know, not the best for going fast) just because I like to bash my boats in choppy water on our lake sometimes. Basically I would like to take the stock transmission and dual motors out and go brushless 4S Lipo. I've already got a motor that we're working on, it'll be about 1800-2000kV 36mm 4 pole 12 solt.

What I really need some help on is getting the right motor mount, couplers, flex drive setup and a prop to make this thing decently quick and reliable. I'm not looking for 40mph out of this old ABS hull or anything, just want to be able to have fun this summer. I plan on glassing the bottom of the hull to strengthen it up and glass in a mount. Any info you guys can provide would be great! I have no clue what I'm doing quite yet.

I wanted this boat ever since I saw it when I was a little kid and finally found one in decent shape, just looking to get it running with a decent setup!

Well I've ordered a motor mount and a graupner flex coupler to get this project under way. I'm going to run one of our T8 1900kV motors and an RX8 with the stock outdrive for now. Going to work on getting the hull glassed and reinforced.

Yeah I searched a lot last night, found some good threads and think I have a direction. Ordered up some trim tabs and turn fins for it as well.

I'm in McCall, that's where Tekin HQ is hiding.

Love to see how your project turned out. I'm doing something similar right now….
What my wife doesn't know won't hurt me.... yet.

Hi Ty, welcome to OSE ,

How are things on lake cascade lately ?. I haven't been back since the Winter Carnival . I am just over here in Meridian / Boise. That's a nice super Hawaii you've got. In a lot of ways it reminds me of the villains with the 80" s abs hull & the outdrives.

I've got a nice vintage Traxxas Villain IV (1987), that will run a reliable 30 - 35 mph all day long on 3s w/ HPI gt-550 mills & Octura x447 props. Its the abs hull, but it handles it just fine. It'll eat a villain ex in stock form & its a hoot to run .....

FYI: for some reason your picture of your super Hawaii disappeared I guess you'll have to re upload it

Here's Make-a-wake's (scorpion 1 @ rc groups) super Hawaii after he got it 2 years ago. He went brushed power too. Vintage hulls are lkooler when they're brushed & still fast.....
