Esc repairs

Anybody out there do ESC repairs? Over time I've accumulated a few that seem to have only one burnt resistor and it seems a shame that you have to trash them for that. Wouldn't mind having them fixed if the price is right.

Excuse my ignorance, but is a 'resistor' a capacitor....?.........if so it can be changed out.

No it isn't a cap but yes it can be changed.

No, I was talking about the switching resistors that actually send the power pulses to the motor- the black square things that are attached to the board and the heat sinks.

Aren't they called FET's? Where would you get them?

I think you were thinking of transistors. Anyway, the MOSFETS could be changed, but in many cases it just isnt worth it. If you were talking a $1000 ESC, maybe, but if you're talking a $100 ESC, nobody in their right mind is going to fix them for a price that would be appealing in my opinion. Too many issues (shipping, parts availabilty, replacing parts and the unit still not working properly, ect.) to put yourself out there without making a decent amount of money.

Unless you have the knowledge to do it yourself it's not worth it.

That's about what I figured, but you never know until you ask. I'm going to try and disassemble one of the burnt controllers and see if I can get it apart without ruining it. If anyone can suggest sources for the necessary parts, that would be cool. I'm sure all this assumes that the boards are not damaged. Thanks everyone.
