    Single Outboard Cat

Im wanting to build another boat, and i like the idea of an outboard to keep everything simple. But my question is would a single outboard work on a cat?

Heres the hull i was thinking:

    With the proboat outboard:

I have a Fiegao 8XL motor and a himodel 200A ESC i was going to use for power. What do you guys think?? Would it work? And would the outboard fit on the back of the boat?

Not worth it, go for a tunnel hull if you want an outboard, unless you are after scale not function.
If they really worked well you would see a lot more people doing it, believe me a lot have tried, you will come to the same conclusion as all before you. Simply not worth the effort for the poor performance.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

That would be an interesting project and definitely would have a cool look, but instead of "keeping things simple" you'd have to deal with :

      1) rigging & waterproofing 7 pass-throughs on the transom for three motor wires, two servo rods, and watercooling lines in & out.

      2) some serious servo placement & aligning issues

      3) CG issues with the heavy motor on the back and weight up high. Boat would likely run wobbly and have substantial rollover potential

      4) lots of reinforcing the motor mount area; R2 boats are THIN

      5) poor turning with what amounts to a steerable outdrive on a hull which doesn't turn well to begin with

      5) the 8XL will shred the drive cable in no time - stick with the stock motor

Other than that it would be a good learning experience in boat building, would likely have a nice look, but not a "simple" build nor a reliable performer.

Okay well thanks for the replys guys. It was just an idea that I had but looks like that wont work. I'll just stick to the traditional FE design.
