2.4ghz receivers and onboard battery packs

I learned the hard way this past week when a friend of mine had his airplane fly away that you do NOT want to use a 4.8V receiver pack on 2.4ghz! The receivers (all brands) are very picky about how much juice they're getting in order to remain bound. The cure is to go to 6.0V nicad/nimh packs. The 4.8V pack in my friends airplane had only gone down to 4.6v but apparently that was enough for the receiver to shut down!

I'm retrofitting my boats that use onboard packs with 6.0V packs this weekend.

Don't think that was an issue last weekend because the boats that were cutting out didn't have receiver packs in them. I've taken out all of the AQ esc's and replaced with either Castle 120 or swordfish 120. Could be the AQ's BEC was breaking down with age. They were all probably at least a year old, maybe two.

      We shall see!

You say you've made some of the capacitors? I suspect you use a servo plug and wire the +/- to the cap? Right? I've got some caps. Gonna try it.
