What worse picking a boat up & unplugging straight away & rowing in with a boat that you know is safe or one that you still have to pick up & then row in with a live boat sat their that could possibly activate at any time for various reasons. Id rather be in a boat with a dead croc than a live one. Martin.

I use safety loops & dont see or ever have water leaks with them, If they leak then they havnt been installed properly. Your far more likelly to get a leak in the rubber bellows on the rudder than through loops being installed. Martin.

Safety loops were beat to death a year or more ago and the threads quickly turned to crap as all rule proposals do. Here is just one of them.

Really no need to do this again is there?
If you want them on your boats by all means do it fellas.

Steven, let's find somebody here in the states to make something usable! Remember though, it's still just another place for the boat to leak!

Also two more connectors to create resistance.
Unfortunately Sailor it's 3 extra connections.
Two for the loop & two on the other end for the ESC/battery to plug into. One of which would have been the original connection between battery & ESC.
I reduce it to 2 extra connections on mine by running the wire through the block & hull so there is only one connection outside the hull but still two inside. But I can't loose a loop that way.
I use 5.5mm bullets & 8 gauge wire to match the rest of the system & keep the resistance as low as possible.
Everything is epoxied in & nothing leaks.
I put loops on my sport boats too. It just makes things so much easier.
          Cheers.
          Paul.

Here's one way it was done on a boat I got years ago from F1Tunnelhull in Australia.
OK, Deans may not be the best; just an idea...

Now all we need to do is get a thread/argument about how to measure a boat and we will have the trifecta of FE arguments for the year done with.

You can ask somebody to fabricate something like this...
I am working on a mold for it, it will have 5.5mm bullets and it will be filled with black insulating epoxy. The final part will also have the margins for gluing to the hull.

With Naviga rules it's easy: because of the weight limit on packs, you cannot really run parallel... but in general just use a bigger wire :p

My take on the safety loops is:

"If you want to use them, by all means do so...BUT...don't mandate them."

I actually think they would a great addition for convenience of not needing to untape/retape to change props or being able to tape up well in advance of a heat. For those reasons I might consider using them. But for safety reasons I'm not totally convinced. Has anyone actually witnessed an injury to someone because a safety loop was not in use? I haven't, nor have I heard of any, but I am really curious to know. I'm certainly not proposing that there have not been any!

It could be the reason they are not generally available as a pre-made item in the U.S. is that a potential manufacturer can not see a reasonable return on investment when looking at projected sales. Another problem for a manufacturer would not being able to standardize them because of different size/type connectors modelers use. JMHO

Interesting. Keep us posted. If it comes with the bullets with wire already in it that would be good.

I'd consider something like that for my Limited class boats. I normally race seven classes in our GP Series, it would be nice to have at least three of them plug and play.
Please post some pics when you're done.

I agree. I'm running in 8 classes at the Nats next week. Sure would be nice to have some of them ready to go so no scramble between heats!
