    water conditions

i m new to this game but i find that i m learning fast, thanks to lots of time on the water and this board... awesome place for info and feedback... stoked to be a member, cheers steven...

anyway, i ve noticed that my SV runs very different depending on the water conditions... glass ie no wind and she s a pig... too much drag, more hull in the water that out... adjusting the strut and trim tabs helps a little but still the thing is slow...

it s a different story with 10 or so knots of wind on the water... 3-4" chop and the thing screams... i d say at least 8 - 10 mph faster... she s out of the water almost standing on the prop and just flying... you can even hear the note from the motor is just higher... more revs and just doing 'what a 12 cell boat is mean t to do' to quote what my mate said last week when my sv was in it s element in 4" wind chop... so much fun...

anyway, great board, good people and awesome info... again i m stoked... what difference do you guys notice in water conditions... i almost turn away from the lake and drive the 1 mile home when the water is glass... i find myself praying for wind....

whats ya story on water conditions ??

there is a time and place for glass like water conditions...when setting up a boat for racing isn't it. seriously you can have 'sticky' water at the begining of the race and by lap 2 you'll have the same conditions that you described(except no wind). it is a bit surprising.
Still waiting for my boat to come in.it came in

When it is glass and you're not running with a bunch of other boats, try putting the batteries back a bit further than you would with chop.

I love the glass. Get the weight to the back of the boat & that strut up. Try running a few tight laps then as the ripples push out you will have some lose water to play in. I have my days where I like the snot but most times I like the predictability of calm flat water.

good info... i guess the glass is slower since there is more surface tension on the water ??? i figure that the wind or chop breaks up the surface tension and makes the boat run with less friction... just like scuffing the bottom of your boat... sound feasible ??

i ll try to move the batts back when i hit the flat water later today... maybe to the stock locations...

You have it correct. If you like the snotty water come run with me. It seems to get chopy about the time I get to the lake...lol

just got back from the lake... glass again :)... moved the bats forward by about 1 -1 1/2"s... def'n ran better...

i just love the wind chop... at the lake the prevailling wind comes on almost side-shore... 3/4 throttle into it, but when ya turn around and head down wind it s WOT screaming...

gotta go wax the snowboards for tomorrow... bats are on the charger :)
