    HK 2040SL 4800Kv Motor $22??

Why are the outrunner brushless motors on HobbyKing so cheap? Do I not know what Kv is? Almost all of the water-cooled motors on HK are under $30.. Im just wondering whats up here.

Im assuming its something with the amount of power or something very simple.. I prob dont know as I am somewhat of a.. noob

I bought the same version of the 4800, in a larger motor, off ebay, It ran okay, something happened and the esc blew up, I don't know if it's the motor or the esc but you can take it if you want it. I ran another one of theirs for the first time in my roundnose hydro, it seems nice, although the wires seem a little thin, I didn't push it since everything is new and is being broken in, but it runs smooth and nice, I say try it, you can't go wrong for 30$

I was just wondering like why this 4800Kv, and all the other high Kv motors from HK, are $30 and not very powerful when say a neu 2000Kv motor is VERY powerful and fairly expensive?

well, the kv i still don't really understand, I beleive it keeps the amps down, but neu is a brand name and makes reliable, powerful, nice motors, the same way you could buy a 200$ computer or a 5000$ computer, they both do the same thing, one does it better

KV is the number of rpm's per volt of input. 4800kv on 1 volt = 4800 rpms.

The lower the kv the more "torque" a motor has, and it will have less amp draw than the same size motor with a higher kv. Boats 'generally' need 2500kv or less motors
