    Genesis 4mm Drive Line Questions

    Hey All,

I'm setting up a Genesis Hull that I got from Ben at Fightercat. This is my first experience with a 4mm drive line and even though I haven't run the boat yet, I'm not exactly enthusiastic about this drive system.

    I will be running a Leopard 4082 1500Kv on 6S with a T180 ESC.

Those who have run these 4mm drive systems, are the reliable?? And will they handle the torque of the 4082??

The rudder/strut/stuffing tube setup came from Ben, I haven't taken measurements, but it looks to be the same hardware the HK Genesis sports. Are there aftermarket struts available, or even replacement bushings for the stock strut, that would allow me to run a one piece 3/16" shaft/.150 flex cable or piano wire on this boat??

    Thanks
    Kevin

PS, Ben has said he is working on a one piece upgrade, but not sure how soon that might be available.

Kevin, kintec has the 4mm strut bearings but the OD is smaller than stock so they won't work. Ben at fightercat sell the stock strut with 4mm bearings installed cheap.6.50 I think....I have had no problems with my 4mm setup. Maint is a pain as u have to remove motor to getout cable to lube it...I have extra parts just in case but so far no problems
Genesis (Bosncali Geico Beater) Leopard 4082 1500KV
(63.7 MPH) Traxxas Spartan (same setup)

      Thanks Shaun,

If I changed out the bushings I was thinking maybe there were aftermarket replacements to fit 3/16" shaft size.

Kevin ose store sells a complete rudder/strut just like the factory Genesis and ose's is for 3/16 and if i remember correctly i was told the Genesis stuffing tube would accept the 3/16 shaft so you could just install the ose one and put in you 3/16 flex!!! i have the ose one and plan on doing my Genesis this way too!!

Thanks Jerry, I will look into that one.

          I have a .150 flex drive with 2 1/4" x 3/16" stub shaft and I took a chance and bought one of these: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...rod=oct-struts

Unfortunately it doesn't fit the stuffing tube and was marked "for brushed motors only" so I'm guessing it isn't robust enough to take the torque of brushless.

I was looking at that one, but wondering the same thing, if it would fit or not.

The Genesis has a 6mm stuffing tube, which is a couple hundredths smaller than 1/4", so I think I could get the stuffing tube to fit, just not sure about the other dimensions.

I don't expect anything for free, but if you are willing to part with it, that would be awesome. I could experiment a bit and see how it works.

I'm more than happy to give you a few bucks plus shipping for it.

                  Kevin

Nice CF build you are taking on BTW.

Thanks, that build has a long way to go,,the strut is a Genesis style system and i have put a 3/16 threw it so i no it will fit,,fit your rudder system and 3/16 prop stub,, im not going to use it and it has no value to me so if it helps you great ill send it at no cost, if you dont use it then no loss!!!! I just needed the rudder and bracket for mine plus my original Genesis cat has its original strut/rudder on it and i have the one from ose to replace it so im good.. Just pm me your address and ill send it out monday,,i have some other things to mail some one else so ill be going there anyway..

I've used that system in my Apparition with various outrunners on 4S and 6S

You can see it here running 6S with a Suppo H3126 1600Kv outrunner, just go to 3:10.

If you maintain it properly you shouldn't have any problem. Only annoying thing is the need to shim props and take it apart to lube it.

But you can drill out the bearing and replace it with a 3/16 bearing from OSE, I've done that on my Genesis and I'm running a regular .150 flex and 3/16 shaft.

Thanks for all the info guys.

HydroJerry has set me up with a strut to experiment with, and then I will wait and see what Ben comes up with. Many thanks Jerry.

If the weather co-operates I will run it this weekend with the 4mm drive and see how things go.

I run the 4mm setup on my bling rocket and it works great. I have the inline strudder setup on my river cat and I used a 3/16" flec I already had on that boat. I just drilled out the strut and ran my stuffing tube as far into it as I could. Works great.
