    upgrade Stiletto or buy UL-1?

I've got a predicament... I currently own a Miss Geico and a Stiletto- what I'm wondering is this: I'm looking for more speed out of the Stiletto because as it stands, it's not an overly exciting boat to drive. The options I'm mulling over are to put a hotter motor/esc in it, or sell it and pick up a UL-1. I know they are different hull designs, but I have seen that hydro's are generally faster, which is what I'm after. I'm a sport boater only- no racing.

What do you think it would take to get the Stiletto up to hydro speeds? Or would it just be cheaper to get a UL-1?

      Steveo,

      I've balanced/sharpened/de-tongued the stock S/S prop, and I'm using 4S 5000 30-40C Turnigy's.

If all you have done is tweaked the stock prop, your not even cracking the surface, there is A LOT of outboard adjustments and prop testing that can be done.

The stiletto is a good size hull, the answer is IMO not a hotter motor, that hull needs torque and prop. JMHO.

If you got with a larger motor like the CC1515 or leopard 4074 with oversized rotors you can get away with more kv and still run a nice sized prop.

Move the motor up and I think you may be surprised.

stiletto is cool, but it will never reach the speeds the ul-1 is capable of. a ul-1 motord/esc will get you going faster, but not the 50 that can be reached with the ul-1 and a good prop

I just can't bring myself to get rid of the Stiletto- OPC's are just about the coolest looking boats, aren't they?? I just ordered a UL1 motor and a Grim 42x55 to try out. Should be a step in the right direction!

Nothing wrong with owning both! And a rigger and a nice mono! Then a vintage hydro........
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I think I'll keep it to what I've got for the time being! I've got a Aeromarine Conquest w/g26, Miss Geico, Stiletto and a HK small bolt. I run by myself, so it gets a bit boring after a few packs- I don't want to add to the fleet until I have someone else to run with!

Thats kinda how I got into electrics, I've run nitro boats for years but slowly everybody got out of it around here, last year I met one guy with a SV27, now he has a few boats, we've found about 3 or 4 other people with electric boats in the area.
I've got 6 electric boats now, some are bare hulls I've picked up, some I've built from plan, I've gotten some nice deals on some stuff off the swap shop here.
Latest is a Dumas Hotshot 3.5 for 20$ with some hull damage, then found a K$B lower and prather 215 for another 25$. Should be able to have it on the water for about 150 I think.
It seems once you have a couple of guys running boats it is much easier to get others involved, if you have a flying or car club nearby put up a flyer letting people know you're looking for people to run with. Might be surprised what people have in their closets!
                    Cheers, enjoy the mods!

its not the top speed thats a prob with the stiletto (even the f-4 phantom was proof if u put enough power on a brick it will fly and be fast) its how to get it to go around corners with any spped and not spin it out thats seems to be the problem....like dale said....put more motor and a prop and u can fly in a stright line....

I don't own a stiletto (i wish) so I don't know if tunnels work with turn fins, that may be your answer in the turns, if its sliding, possibly raising the motor. Do not get rid of it though, it is a nice tunnel, both esthetically and upgradeabally (i make up werdz)

                            Stilletto

I absolutely love my Stilleto. Its all in the set up. I have many Geicos at the pond and mine will keep up with them no problem. I have the stock motor and prop in mine. I have the outboard up so not much of the prop is in the water. The thing kicks butt and stays in the water at all speeds. I honestly can't say enough good things about it. Mess with the set up. You will be happy!

While I'm waiting for my new motor and prop to get here, I raised the motor up some more, added just a hair of positive thrust (prop pointing up) and did a little back cutting/cupping/added a little pitch to the stock prop and swiped the 42x55 from my MG to try out too. Going out to the pond to try everything out after work tomorrow!
