    Tubes vs Bellows

Hey guys I have a question about steering shaft/rods. I see some run their steering shaft through a tube with no rubber boot/bellow. Why, and how does it work?

I used an aircraft cable and tube on the Rio and it didn't leak a drop. I didnt like the flex it had even after I braced it. If I use one again it will be a push pull. I would rather use boots though.

if want a good way to seal a push rod hole that small.
take a piece of water cooling tube about 5/16th long and then slice it open so the tube is cut. then flatten the tube and it becomes a small square piece of rubber, then take you exact to a push a small line/cut in the middle of it , glue the rubber to the transom of the boat ( on the inside so it doesn't look ugly) and then push the rod threw it, the small cut is small enough to hold around the rod and it wont let any water in and looks clean on the out side
