    Carbon trim tabs?

What about a set of carbon trim tabs?
Yesterday in a crash at about 50mph I've bent one trim tab and now I'm thinking of building a pair of them made with pre preg carbon fiber polimerized in autoclave ... a very strong stuff

If you hit that hard coming in tail first back into the water the carbon ones would most likely break as well. If you made extra thick carbon tabs, the brackets would bend before the tabs would making adjustment useless.

    just my 2 cents.

To add to what Tyler said... based on my experience, you also can't make fine tweaks, like adding "training wheels" to the carbon ones.

You are better off with Stainless material...

Hey Tyler, how would you know about that ?

I've found that the ready-made carbon fins are too flexible & breakable for those
rapid-re-entry incidents. Randy ( Rearwheelin) might make you some heavy-duty CF fins - check him out.

EDIT : Duh, tabs, not fins - nevermind !

          Hey Tony,

Although I have never bent a tab, I have bent too many turn fins. Thick scrubs speed though. I might end up making some thin steel ones............

BTW, for your cyberstorm did you put the 40 size rudder on that boat or just the insane mono?

              Thanks T,

I see you have to do some extensive grinding to get the rudder bracket to fit. I mocked up the 40 size rudder on the DF33, but it was going to take a lot of fitment to work. I decided to just run the 21 size with reinforcement.

Yup, a grind-o-rama there ! I do like the big rudders for sprints 'tho

                I got luckier on the 34" Mono - " Mock-up Twice; drill Once" !
