But lets get back on topic...So far the 2028 780kv and maybe a leopard 5692 750kv in the beast to see 50mph. I know a 2230 would push this hull but not going to send that on just a motor. A 2028 At $308.00 shipped to my door straight from castle and steve carrys the 5692 for 185.00 I believe...Eagles may soar in the clouds, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines..56" P.I. you have a pm that states why the 50 apache will smoke the rio in rough water. Its all about deadrise, strake configuration, and depth of the v at the back and carrying forward.Comment

Since you have owned the large gasser hulls, what do you recommend for hardware? Rudder lenth, extension bracket lenth, stinger strut drive lenth?..Eagles may soar in the clouds, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines..56" P.I. Good Morning,
This thread must have run well into the night as I quit at 1130, any way,
Setup tips, well what comes to mind
1. The bottom of the stinger hole should be 3/16 off the bottom of the vee and do not offset the stinger for torque as the fe application will use a much smaller prop as compared to gas.
2. Rudder should be centered 2.5 inches to the right from a centerline drawn up from the bottom most point of the vee, the same one you use for the stinger. It should have 2"+ depth or more from the bottom of the transom where it is located. I'd want probably 2.5 even.
Rudder should be large in width not tapered and a stand of of 4-5 inches depending on the length of the stinger used. I have never used anything other than the standard length gen 1 speedmaster. however that stinger is no longer made. THere are 2 different lengths out now and either would work as long as your leading edge of the rudder blade is even with the prop leading edge or farther back.
3. Trim tabs, on each side, the enter edge of the first tab should be 1-1.5" from the outside edge of the stinger. The outer trim tab should be centered on the middle strake on the bottom of the boat.
4. Turn fins, well my thoughts are none on a boat of this size until you run it. The really large dvs have less of a need for them. However run it and if the boat does not handle as you would like place the trim tabs 1" in from the outside corners of the transom and set at a 90* angle from the Bottom of the boat
very important on any trim tab. DO NOT ever put the turn fins out at the very edge or corner of the transom. They should be moved in at least an inch or as far in as you can move them depending on outer trim tab on small boats.
Will be a learning curve for us newbee s in fe watching a large boat build like this!! Will definitely want to watch this!Comment

Afternoon, thanks for the information on the hardware. Where can I find a large stinger with 3/16 prop shaft for this hull then, because the stinger steve carries looks to be a little small for this large hull...Eagles may soar in the clouds, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines..56" P.I. For that boat you are going to need a 1/4" cable with a 1/4" stinger. If you want to run 3/16" props you can get one of the 1/4" prop shafts that have the end turned down for 3/16" props.Steven Vaccaro

I would recommend to just go to the .250 cable and stubb shaft. If he goes twin 5692's then I could see him maybe using props smaller then 60mm. But if he goes with a single 2028 or the larger Lehner/Neu's I bet all the props to try are going to be over 60mm. Especialy with the 2038 as its limited to 30k rpm.

I'm thinking about just breaking down and buying a NEU 2230 guys but would like to build a Apache 50" hull also so not sure if the wallet will allow me to with the "REAL" boat season just around the corner. But if I go the twin Leopard route I'm worried about the 2 motor's W/ jacket's fitting between the 5" rails.
I will be using 1/4"cable steped down to 3/16" prop shaft...Eagles may soar in the clouds, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines..56" P.I. Fountain /37"Genesis Cat.-1717/T-180/33" DF Copy-1717/T-180Comment

I think the 5692 is a little small if you're shooting for 50mph+.
I think these are the most reasonable options for a single motor app:
-Neu 2230
-Castle 2028
-Scorpion 5035
Im not sure how well the scorpion would do in that boat but I've always wanted to try one of those 5035's and its the most affordable motor on that list
I would keep the kv under 800 with any motor you get.Comment

Yea I agree with 5035! And one of ben's (fightercat's) new 72volt esc's would be a nice low cost way to go!Fleet: 55" Quad inline T600 Cigarette boat, Twin Mean Machine, Twin T600 47" mystery mono, 4082 Surge Crusher, 1717 8s Genesis, 4074 Villain, "mini mono", 52" Bonzi, Prather Funcruiser, 2 DPI 3.5cc tunnels, 5' Styrofoam recover bargeComment
