    Video Editing Software???

I have some .avi and .mpg raw videos that I need to be able to edit so I can post them.

I need to be able to do things like cut the first 30-seconds from the beginning, etc.

I have used Windows Movie Maker, which seems to do most everything else I need to do, but I can't seem to see how to use it to cut up the video. If it can be done, them could someone tell me how?

Otherwise, what type of software (preferably FREE, or nearly so...) are you using??

    Thanks.

In moviemaker, you mark the beginning and end of the segment you want to delete. As I recall, you can pick a point and then right click and click on CUT. Then do the same for the other end of the segment (add a point and click cut) Then click on that segment and hit delete! I can't check it right now as I'm on my laptop. It doesn't have enough memory to run Moviemaker.

      Try this:

Unfortunately I haven't used any video editing software on Windows in about 5 years. I used to use Adobe Premiere on Windows. For video editing I use a Mac and Final Cut Studio. For quick vids I used iMovie.

There is a way to do that with MovieMaker. I have to play with it again to figure it out.

With standard Windows Movie Maker when you have a video clip selected, over under the window viewing the video, the button 'Split' will be there. Clicking that will split the video where the time marker, (the line on the time of the video at its current frame), and split them into two different chunks. Moving the time marker down and clicking 'Split' again will to the same, and then you can delete the unwanted portion.

With Windows Movie Maker Live, it's the same thing, but the 'Split' button is up in the Editing Panel towards the top, under the taskbar.

I use microsoft movie maker for my videos you can cut them. On the bottom of your scree towards the left it should say "storyboard" change that to "timeline" after you drag your media where you want it.
