I need help with 1515 .5y competition wind

Hey guys first time poster here, I have a miss geico rtr and shes just not fast enough. So i purchased a 1515 .5y comp motor from neu as well as cooling jacket and water cooled motor mount. I am asking for any and all help you fine gentleman can give me regarding esc, battery, and prop selection. I tend to get a lil nutty with these dam hobbies and I dont really have a price cap for the parts so any help I can get I would welcome. Thanks for your time

you picked a very high wind motor whats the reason, i would only suggest 2/ 3s lipo and a castle creations 240 amp esc and a 2p 5000 mah and 40c and higher lipos- prop octura x438 to start

a better way to go is lower rpm and higher voltage, less amp draw makes it easier on all you electronics and its more effecient

you should give us more info on how fast you are trying to go

Yeah, thats not a very friendly KV for boating. I'm thinkin' 2s max if you are set on using it.

I would suggest (2) 2s 5000 packs running in parallel for 2s2p. So you will end up with 2s 10000mah. Watch your run times because if it gets hot in a minute or so, its going to bake with the extended runtime of the 10,000mah.

2s 10,000mAh and an X445, LV240 should be OK for N2offshore if anyone runs that class.

Thats a hot competition motor. Not meant for typical applications. I have several .5Y motors and there is one thing you need to be aware of. They do not have a bunch of copper windings inside the stator. Look inside a 1Y and you will see many wires. Look inside a .5Y and the "lack" of windings is REAL eye opener.

Whats that mean? Easy to smoke or get VERY hot if you dont know what your setup will draw. I would reconsider your choice and move towards a more tolerant motor. I consider my .5Y motors to be more like SAW motors. Not right for high speed and endurance. Just my 2 cents.

The .5y is really just a n2 heat racing motor or a saw only motor if you dont need it for that and are just sport running i would geting somthing to run on at least 4s or even 6s.

If I were you I'd try to sell that .5y and get a 1515-1Y and run on 4S.

Yeah-- if you want to run a 4S config with 2x2S1P (which would be good balance for that boat), the max KV motor you probably want is 2200KV...

Hey guys wow, Thanks for all your super fast responses.. I purchased the motor because I figured the more kv the faster; in hindsight maybe I was mistaken... Either way its the motor i have and it was expensive so I'm set on using it.... the boat will not be raced it is purley for enjoyment, so im trying to make it as out of control as possible.. Is the motor I have a fast motor? what can I do to run it to its fullest potential? Thanks again guys

Sell it. I'd do more research before buying from now on. Don't use that motor unless you plan on cooking it. I'd rather take a small hit on selling it than burn it up.

well, what setup would you guys recomend to make this little boat as extremly fast and uncontrollabe as possible.. I'm talkin extremly nuts..... because that was my goal for this little toy. As I stated i'm not trying to conform or race in any class or series just want to build it to be a ball to operate. Thanks

You got some good advice earlier in this thread. That advice could work but none of us know how well you know how to build, how you drive. The problem with newbs is that they dont know to not at run partial throttle. Thats bad. They dont know to not run in a small pond where they run 50 or 60 feet and turn around and do it again.

They dont know when a hull is running wet. Not to run their packs down below a safe level. Theres much more. Since we dont know your experience we are going to offer very conservative advice. If you dont know how to drive a FE boat why would you want to run a boat in your words "Extremely fast and uncontrollable as possible".

We just dont want to see you smoke something due to inexperience. If you know your stuff and have researched the hull then by all means go for it. You can get a solid 50-60 mph on 4S using a 2200kv motor. And run for 2 minutes or more. Run that 1515/.5Y using too big a prop or your hardware adjusted incorrectly and in 60 seconds you could have a ruined motor or worse. A fire.
