Does a de tongued prop increase top end speed

I have a small micro deep v mono that i use an Octura metal x435 that runs around 42000 rpm unloaded ( around 50mph) will de tongueing the prop increase the top end speed or have other effects as well. Thanks Martin.

From my understanding the tongue are of the prop does most of its work at lower speeds, like getting on to plane. Removing the area should help free up the prop at higher rpms allowing for a higher loaded rpm, ultimately resulting in more speed. In theory detonguing a prop will make top end faster but a little bit more aeration/ cavitation on take offs.

I was a little off, guess you will gain acceleration too according to some other reading i just did.

yes. the tongue is the part of the prop that has the least pitch and is the first part to enter the water. taking away the tongue allows the prop to move a little more water

Detongueing works best on x series props from my understanding so i would think you would pick up a couple mph's by detongueing it.

this has some info about different areas to bend and cut depending on the style of prop
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Removing the tongue has proven to increase top end somewhat, exactly how much depends on a lot of things. A friend's 10S mono was running a stock x455 at 50 mph. I loaned him my x455 with the tongue removed and he picked up 4 mph. IME this is more gain than normal, but with his setup it did the trick.

Octura saw that many top FE racers were removing the tongue on their x props, so Tom made the "m" series, which are "x" props with most of the tongue cut off. They are top sellers.

What you may find is that the boat takes a bit longer to get on plane, due to the missing tongue. Tom designed the "x" props to work on about anything, and the tongue helps initial thrust. Once the boat is on plane, the tongue can reduce top end.
