    Hydra 120 and Feigao 7xl

I just wanted to know if a hydra 120 could handle the 7xl on 4s or 12-14 cells nimh?

SAme setup i use in two of my boats and I never had a meltdown yet.....just don't go crazy with over-propping.

God I hate typing on that tiny pda keyboard...
Guys its grea that combination is proven but I think we are missing something here. Exactly what it works in. I don't see any mention of what hulls are in use. Shure it may work fine in a 25 to 30 light mono, cat or hydro but when we get to larger heaver hulls you are going to burn things up. So the question really shoud be what does it work in.... IMO anyway.

              Well said !! Higher rev's = higher heat ! Here's a pix of a finned 7XL I ran in the
26 " Drifter S. On the 4th 62mph lap ; Boom !! 268 deg. on the can !!! This was with a Hydra 240 ; 4S , X637. The 7XL is considered by many to be a SAW motor, but I couldn't resist how she'd do in oval trim. Watercooling is a MUST

I could not recommend a Nemesis 7XL or Hacker 7XL for most uses - are these the 7XLs we are discussing here? A good 7XL is a very high performance motor for 4S, suitable only for short runs or oval racing with small props. I have ran several, a B50 and a C50 Hacker, in sport hydros on high-end NiMH cells and it was really too hot for oval racing, even with a small x438 prop - cell temps were just too high (165F+ after five laps). The boat was faster on an 8XL anyway. The situation would been even worse on good 4S packs. On so-so cells it might be okay, but an 8XL is a much better overall choice.

Thanks for the info guys. for the time being, I have just been making topend runs. But I would like to get into oval racing, if I can find a place to do it around here.

Tony, you obviously caught the speed sickness from attending too many SAW events! Burning up equipment is just part of the "fun" of speed.

for the time being, I have just been making topend runs...
That should be fine, just watch the heat and avoid the temptation of making "just one more pass"....

lol well that temptation usually ends up with boat blowing over.

Funny you mention that ; I was done running laps, but there were some
" impressed spectators" so I took 'er around for one more lap ; I told the guy next to me " I shouldn't be doing this" , and then that's EXACTLY when she went BOOM !!

i used a 7xl with a x438 prop and 4s in a hydro, in oval racing 1 mile heats, with 100-115 degree temps, yes i used a temp gun. as a matter of fact i bought the motor from SJFE awhile back. but the IB 4200s were hot 140+! this thread is interesting...
