    Whiplash/P Sport Hydro

Today I converted my Whiplash from LSH spec to the more powerful P sport hydro class. I will first try the Neu 1515 1y 2200kv motor, Hydra 240, and Two Hyperion 4s 3300mah (4s2p). Hull now weighs just shy of 7lbs in picture. COG is 2 inches behind sponson.

    I have on order a Neu 1518 1.5D 2340kv motor.

I attached two steeper ride pads more forward (longer afterplane?). Removable ride pads were attached using 3M High Tack spray adhessive. Turnfin will be swapped for Virginia Craftsman turnfin. Just thought I would show pictures of progress.

Thanks Jeepers. I located my Hydra ESC in rear of hull (easier to repair hull if esc burns). My new Hydra Ice ESC will not fit this cofiguaration without cutting and modding. So I will be building a 2nd Whiplash with slightly different layout.

      The Whiplash is the coolest.

a 646 will make that boat run well. plus I don't think you will need the ride pads with that motor, the whip can take some power in its stock form and still handle good.

mine runs in the mid/ high 60's and could still take more.

Jeepers, Where do you think the best COG is located? I remember your Lipos are located next to the motor? Could you post a current picture?

Is your Hydra LV 240 still holding up?

Detox, I eventually moved the batteries to the nose and esc in front of the motor, looks like your setup but with the esc between the batteries and motor,

sorry I don't have a current picture of it set up at the moment, its in repair after getting tagged by an FE30 at the winter warmups.

The Hydra 240 LV help up fine on P sport power, it died for some reason when I set the boat up for P spec, (UL1 motor),after running 3 good heats on the UL1 motor, pit man launched my boat for the next heat, I hit the throttle and Puff the magic smoke came out.

Looks good Detox. Love that boat. Still one of the cleanest builds I've seen. Are you pretty much maxed out for realestate with the 3300 cells? I would love to get 5000's in there if I build one.

I can fit two heavy 5000 packs inside my boat, but I did not plan for these. Plan ahead before you build if you want better fit (such as making battery compartment deeper and/or mounting motor more toward stern)

ESC is armed and boat is ready to go. Hull weighs 7.5 lbs. COG is 2.25 inches behind sponson.

Is it OK to locate the Tactic radio receiver this close to 6v battery pack? anyone?

I ran the Whiplash just awhile ago and boat did verygood in choppy/windy conditions (stable, fast, and good ride attitude), but after a couple of laps the boat stopped pulling and would not get back on plane. Turned out the collet was slipping on the .150 drive cable. Lesson learned I will upgrade to the stronger .187 collet and cable.

The small Mighty Mini servo will probably be the next item to fail, but I will try it until it does fail.

Seems like 3300mah packs are gonna be marginal with the motor and prop you want to run? I run 5000's in my whip on spec setup and a friend of mine runs 4200's. I wouldn't think 3300's would make 6 laps?

After a few laps the boat may slow down a bit using just 6600mah (4s2p), but it should be OK. I will run 6 laps and check remaining capacity. The 4200 Hyperion packs will fit easily.

6600 should be plenty I use 6500 mah total in my P sport.

Today I did a 6 lap run and had over 50% left in packs. Boat is too fast (loose canon). I will have to remove the steeper ride pads. I originally used the the steeper ride pads for the slower spec setup.

                              Heavier batts would help.
