    Newbie looking for advise

    Hello All,

I posted this on another forum but then found this one. I have some RC experience, 4 hobby grade RC helis and 2- 1/10 scale RC Porsches. Due to wind and space locations it's tough for me to fly the helis much and the fact that I live on an island with water 100' out my back door makes a RC boat a no brainer, why i didn't go this route before is beyond me. So hre it is....

I am looking for a RTR V hull (Thought I was) may consider a cat in the 30+ inch range. My budget is $500. (now was) would like to not exceed $600 COMPLETE. I want it to be quick, but super fast is not super important, I am willing to sacrifice speed for run time. I was looking at the Traxxas Spartan until I read some of the posts here and other forums. So I am looking again.... I read on another thread someone recommended the Pursuit. I like the looks but I read someplace else that it was considered a boat for people with RC boat experience, plus it's going to be a bit over my $500 budget. (now $600) Does anyone have any thoughts on this and what is the approximate run time per charge? Looked at the Ms. Gieco but I hate the graphics, same with the new "Motley Crew" boat. Also looked at the AquaCraft SuperVee 27R bit smaller but only by a couple of inches. I was also told to look at he Venom King of Shaves V hull boat. Anyway ideas and guidance are greatly appreciated.

What kind of run times were you getting? Are the decals easily removable? (little elbow grease and some goof off)

      Thanks,

The SV27's are great boats, but they tend to flip a bit easier so is the water warm? If you buy any of the Hong Kong (non-branded) boats plan to do a lot work on them, but they can be made to run well. I had the pursuit, it is a very stable and nice running boat. I ended up putting in my own motor, esc and driveshaft.

I have been told the Geico is really a great all around boat in terms of the stability and performance RTR.

I have owned... SV27, Pursuit, UL-1 and a bunch of other stuff I built.

I suppose if I were just starting out again with boats I would buy the Geico because it is a pretty good boat for the money and would require only a few mods to run well. You can see from the threads that a lot people have positive things to say about the boat in comparison to say the Traxxas boat.

You will discover ALL of them can be improved upon and have certain weak spots. Nothing is perfect, and tinkering is part of the hobby.

Let me take you out on a limb and recommend the best boat I own at this time. This is it:
Are you looking to become a part of the winners circle? Then Insane Boats’ superior quality and performance RC hulls and hardware is your way forward.

        This boat will cost you:
        230.00 boat
        100.00 hardware
        50.00 servo, driveshaft
        150.00 Motor and esc

ok ok..I am over your limit. But, if you could put one together you would have boat you could run all day at mid-30's and it would never flip and you could run it mid 60's and it would still stay glued to the water. So far, it just blows away anything I have driven in terms of speed and stability. Maybe you can locate one aready built. I know that one member here has one for sell that is brand new. Maybe he could be talked into builiding it for you... Just a thought.

Part of the fun is the research... Good Luck..

The decals are covered by clearcoat so you wont get them off without a respray. I was getting about 10mins run time on 4s with an x640 prop. I upgraded to a 90a esc and turnigy h3126 1600kv motor on 5s and it was flying, prob about the same sort of run time too. All packs were 5000mah

Wow, thanks for the great responses.

Electric, Thanks for the info on the SV27. the water is plenty warm (already in the high 70's) I know from experience on my full sized boat water and electric don't mix well and I'm guessing submarineing an RC boat doesn't do it any favors. How was the run time on your Pursuit? The more I look at this boat the more I like it and it looks like it would be very easy to upgrade if I choose to. I'm not sure about the hydroplanes. Where I'm planning on running there can be a 2-3 inch chop sometimes. That's kind of why I was leaning towards the V bottoms.

Jamespl, That's what I figured, I like the 10 min run time. Is the boat pretty forgiving?

            Thanks all again,
            Keysguy

Since the pursuit is a bigger boat it will need more juice than the sv or the geico. You can run two 4s batteries in parallel or look into a 6s setup. Frankly, I never time the runs, I just bring lots of batteries. I do know when I was running 4s2p it ran plenty long for me. Run time between 5 and 10 minutes are common on most boats unless you are running a hot set up. Broad generalization of course, but just to give you an idea.

By the way, just do a search on "pursuit" using the search drop down on this forum and you will find lots of information about various setups for this boat. You should also shop around for the boat, because it is sold by many different vendors with different set ups and prices.

If you are looking for a mono, you might also consider any of the comparable sized Delta Force boats. Very good handling boats. They have won many awards. You might consider buying one used that is already "set up" to run. There are good deals that come up and that way you can get a boat that has some of the "kinks" worked out.

I found that in a straight line it handles fine but on tight turns it spins out, that was easily sorted by some turn fins which it should have come with standard IMO. I think the pursuit would be a better cornering boat than the P1 but the P1 looks awesome.

Running in chop? ALright so when you look at a boat to buy the most important thing for you will be... can it handle the chop? I think the V hull KOS would be a nice choice... but I wouldn't throw out a large cat. Theres several videos on this site of the Miss Geico and KOS (and other cats) handling 2-3 inch water perfectly... and those boats are typically more stable and easier to run than the flatter, faster vhulls.

I did it. Pulled the trigger and bought the Kintech Racing Pursuit. I'll post pictures and such as I go through my new adventure. Now I need the battery and radio gear.....
