    FE-30 Hatch

Gentlemen, I spoke with Jeff from Insane Boats yesterday and he is trying to work with all of us on this issue. He told me that by summer time, he will have a new "Turbine Style Cowl" for the FE-30 (with more interior room) that will address the problems with the existing cowl. Jeff agreed that the conventional cowl will continue to cure through out its life time. The epoxy cowl is less prone to the continued curing. Based on the information at hand, I will try all of the fore mentioned fixes and get one of the new cowls on order. Jeff is well aware of this problem and is working to "make things right" with the FE boaters.

      FE-30 Hatch

      Insaniac,

From the conversation with Jeff (Insane Boats) , he said summer time. I would drop Jeff a line and let him know that there is additional interest. That might get the ball rolling sooner if interested people drop him an email.

Thanks and we will keep our fingers crossed.

      Ted

I don't know the status but I have solved the problem. I keep the hatch in a jig whenever it is not is use, but jig keeps the hatch in compression and after several months in the jig it fits well. Simple to make too.

What are the measurements to make this jig as I just got a fe 30 from some in here and hatch some what doesn't fit right

I'd assume make the jig the same width as the outside of the lip on the hull, or a tad smaller..

Tony, next time you head to Jeffs shop would you ask him what happened to the upgraded cowl. I still need one, as mine fits very bad and is pulled into shape to seal. Thanks Ted

Gentlemen, I made a call to Jeff at Insane last night to inquire on the improved/upgraded FE30 cowl. Jeff told me that he has been very busy with other projects BUT has not forgotten about the FE30. Jeff told me that he will.get back on this project in the next two months. I would think that if any of you have interest, you should get up with Jeff and express interest and get on the list. Just my suggestion!

This only took a few minutes & some ply scraps to apply and does the trick

Did that, as that is only bandaid to pull the warp into place.

I tried the heat the glass up with a blow dryer and hold it while it cools method a few weeks ago and I must say it worked surprisingly well.
