    FE-30 Hatch Poor Fit

Does anyone have any idea where a new Epoxy hatch can be pruchased for a FE-30 Insane Hydro. Mine is new but the fit is very poor with the ends curled up. I have read of some heating procedures, but they are not a permanent fix.

    Thanks for any inputs.

Common issue with those FE-30's. I have one to. Maybe we can speak with the person who is making those cowl's for the Gieco boats...

I ended sanding a bit off the inside part of the cowl to lower it so the "flair" is not as much of an issue, but it still does require a fair amount of tape to hold it down.

The boat is still my favorite in terms of speed and handling...

        FE-30 Hatch

        Gentleman and FE-30 Owners,

I have sent Scott (fabricates epoxy hatch for Miss Gieco) a PM to see if he would be interested in production of FE-30 hatch made of Epoxy Resin. If anyone else is interested, please serve notice, where as we can make it worth Scotts while for the effort.

        Thank you all

            FE-30 Hatch

Darin, thanks, I will consider that after giving one or our OSE members a chance.

            Thanks again.

I haven't contacted Jeff as of yet, so I will have to give him a chance to correct this issue. It seems like Jeff should make it good on warentee issue.

I actually just sent him an email asking about a replacement hatch. In my case (I have had the boat for a long time) I am ok with paying for a new one. The big question is did he figure out what was causing that to happen and was he able to correct it? Mine was warped from the start, but I had purchased this boat right about the time he had just started to make them.

                FE-30 Hatch

I have sent Jeff at Insane and Email and we will see what comes out of it. Mine is a new boat (undrilled) and I have been stalled in building due to the cowl condition. I want to have a cowl that fits and will tape down good for water proofing. Thanks will keep all informed as this unfolds.

                  Ted,

Is this the FE30 I sold you? I hope you don't think I was trying to hide anything, as the hull was exactly as it came to me. I just figured everyone knew about the fitment, since it seems to be mentioned in most of the FE30 threads, including the introduction thread by Tony. I was just going to have some sort of hatch lock / screw in every corner of the hatch.

Hopefully you can get it straight and build that bad boy. I'd love to see a vid or at least pics of it done.

I recieved a new FE30 about two months ago and knock on wood, the hatch is fine. Hopefully Jeff has resolved what ever the problem was.

Mine was a bit curled up as well, but it was an easy fix. I put tabs on the bottom side of the front of the cowel that slide under the deck of the hull. Then for the back I used two thumb screws to hold it down, makes for a good fit and holds it flush. I would have done this whether the cowl fit well or not as I don't trust tape alone to hold the hatch on for higher speed boats.

Shrinking of the Gel coat or two part paint will cause curling on thin hatches. The longer it cures the more shrinkage or curling you will get until it has cured fully. So if you purchased a new hatch then painted it using two part paint it may curl up again. I would use regular Krylon paint to prevent shrinkage.

Thanks to all of the OSE members as usual. I have a few different paths to cross, but would like to lean toward a new Epoxy cowl.

                              Thanks again
