    stuffing tube to strut gap?

so I'm getting near to the 'epoxy the tube in place' point w/ my mean machine... could someone confirm my memory? between the strut and the brass tube there should be xxxx amount of space(methinks that it should be about 0.5") thanks

Very good question Rex. I have seen longer gaps than that. I would suspect it may depend on size of flex shaft as well as you want some adjustment in strut angle and possibly depth. hmm. Reddy would know.

well I suppose I could; cut it afterward(kinda messy tho), or wait till someone chimes in(still got the brace to fab so its not like I have nothing to do while I wait :)). I expect there are lots o'folks who are finding out why the phrase 'some assembly required, batteries not included' strikes terror in parents this time of year. I have left a 1/2 inch gap then found a tube one size larger fitting over the drive tube to extend it to the strut, then heat shrink it together. It works like a telescope if you want to change the strut angle.

I run the stuffing tube into the front of the strut - no gap. Ths picture is of a wire drive so I had to sleeve down, hense the telescoping tubing. Works.....very well. On a boat as well known as the MM there isn't a lot of strut adjustment experimenting needed. The brass tubing bends easily by hand anyway.

Thank you to Treystoys but I am just wondering if this amount is ok and safe to have exposed with just Teflon tube? It obviously works but just wondered if it is safe?

right 1/2" it is. have to look through my odd bits and see what heat shrink I have left over, to go over the teflon liner. thanks

I ran 1/2 inch of tefon to the strut in my xs2 rigger and tied the flex in knots , snapped it and lost my best detounged x642 to the lake gods! I now run brass tube to the strut, heat shrinked. With the stuffing tube aneiled it is easy to change strut depth and angle and no probs with the flex.
