    Dumas disappointment

Started building what I thought was the Skidadle 20 this morning.

After getting much of the frame together I realize they sent me another Skidaddle TOO. Even the decal is for the TOO. Of course the invoice is for the model I wanted.

Have written for a refund for the price difference, but that is not really the issue. Poop!!

Well, at least I am familiar with the build process.

I started building my first Dumas model almost 50 years ago...the PT109. It was my first boat kit although I'd built some medium difficulty airplanes before. It took a long time and I had to do a lot of modifying to get parts to fit and to mount a motor (Pitman 6 volt). I didn't know any better at the time and finished the boat after a long build process - especially for a young pre-teenager. It wasn't very pretty but it was my first R/C boat so I was happy.

A few years later I built two other Dumas kits, the the SK Jr and the DV20. I finally decided that overall Dumas kit quality was very poor. While it is possible to build a decent model from a Dumas kit, you really need to replace most of the wood with better material. You did well with your first Dumas kit. I am not even certain if Jay Dumas is still with the current Dumas boats, they seem to be liquidating old stock.

Thanks for the replies-yes Dumas folks have been very helpful in the past--and, frankly, although some of the wood seems a bit dry (old) I have not had a real problems with it.

For some reason I like the style of these things--just wish I had recieved the right kit, or at least recognized the problem earlier so it could be corrected.

Wonder if they would give me a Ski 20 at cost???

They said they were out of stock of the Ski20--instead got a discount on DeepVee20. Not as much as I had hoped for, but better than nothing.

Have not recieved yet, but no matter-am still building second sktoo.

                      Hi Guy's ,

Currently i am building hotshot .45 , it seems the side panels are a bit oversized & non trip spars are to wide though it is workable . Impressed by the kit overall & believe they are worth percevering with , will be painted in the JPS raceboat scheme that was raced by Bob Spalding in Europe 1978-84ish ....

What are your plans for powering the DV20?
That was my first boat way back in the early 80's, ran it with an enya 19 with a kool klamp.
I still have that hull, I should put some electronics in it and run it for old times sake. I just never wanted to get rid of that one.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?
