Hobby Wing runs at 1/2 throttle?

I have a customer with a Hobby Wing 180 that runs at 100% for a couple of seconds then drops off to 1/2 throttle. Cells are good and strong. I dont have much personal experience with the Hobby Wing Esc yet. I wonder if its going into a overheat protection, I dont think its overheat since it only runs hard for a second or two. Maybe the packs are not suppling enough voltage and hitting the lvc.

I don't have a Hobby Wing 180 Instead I have the 35A ones. If the ESC is not getting hot enought it may be hitting the LVC. I agree. Have them raise it. What's it at now?

If there is an AUTO setting for lipo cell count, use that.

Steve here is the manual for the ESC:

          http://www.hobbywing.com/upload/manu...g_080628_e.pdf

          Don't see a Sensitivity setting?

After power on, motor does not work, no
sound is emitted : The connection between battery
pack and ESC is not correct: Check the power connection. Replace the connector.

After power on, motor does not work, such an alert tone is emitted:
          “beep-beep-, beep-beep-” (Every “beep-beep-” has a time interval of
about 1 second) : Input voltage is abnormal, too high or too low. Check the voltage of battery pack

After power on, motor does not work, such an alert tone is emitted:
“beep-, beep-, beep- ”(Every “beep-” has a
time interval of about 2 seconds) : Throttle signal is irregular Check the receiver and
          transmitter

The motor suddenly speeds down even if at the full throttle situation
The ESC has entered the low voltage cutoff protection mode <sound like that!

          Hope that helps.

Thanks. I'm not being wise, but reading the manual was the first thing I did. My concern is why it would hit the lvc with 45c 5000mah packs.

That can happen with any battery. Do they have a different battery set to try?. What voltage do they show when the batteries are charged? Maybe the cells are weak or bad? It's always good to try to eliminate what is most suspect. If another set does the same thing then it may be the ESC. Set it to Auto like Jim said and see what happens.

Mine does the same thing when it hits lvc. My guess is the packs aren't good enough. Try new batteries. I get about 4 minutes then as soon as the lvc kicks in it goes to half throttle

Ive heard some of those controllers have bad LVC's, sounds like thats the issue, i know one of my T180's is the same, it just kicks in after a few seconds of full throttle and the same packs on my other T180 it works fine, i just turned my LVC off on that controller and since i'm constantly bringing the boat in to check temps i just keep an eye on the volts, i alos bought one of those HK low voltage detction beeping things, lol haven't used it yet though

I have always had issues with the AUTO detect on my seaking esc's I never use it, I always enter the cell count. Like mentioned there is some of the seaking with lvc issues in premature kicking in, I always use 3.2 with good luck. Try turning it off and running it for a few laps.

Yea that would be the first thing I would do Steve. I am not sure why the autodetect has issues but I have had issues on the 180's and the 120s doing the same thing. Now I change all the setting to exact cell count on any new esc I get and when running different voltages I make sure to change it. Thats why I like the little program card so much, I keep it in my toolbox and when I need to change something at the pond, 2 seconds and done, no sitting there counting beeps on my fingers lol.

I think that will be a good fix for him steve.

Most of us that race with the 180 end up turning off the lvc. We don't run long enough to need it on. I've has similar problems .
