    HPR135.....slowed down a bit?

    Hey guys,
    Pretty new to fast electric boats so I need some help. I've had a couple HansPeter hulls in the past and will never buy another cat from anyone else. I'd like to build one of his 135's but here's my issue.

    Everyone seems to be running crazy power, and going for 100mph+ boats with 8 minute run times. What I want, is a 60mph boat that will do 15 minute run times. When I emailed HansPeter he said 8 minutes was the max you could get.

    I don't know if he didn't completely understand my question or not. And I'm not good enough to figure kv's vs volts x dylithium crystals + Continuum Transfunctioner = how fast I can go.

    I'm perfectly happy with 60. That's plenty to get me in trouble. I just want longer run times than 8 minutes. Wouldn't this be possible with bigger mAh and maybe a more torque kv'd Neu motor?

    Alright mike... here's what I think Hans meant...

    The rule of thumb is, anytime you start getting some speed (so really anything above 30mph) you're going to want to maintain limited runtimes. Doesn't matter how good your system is, you'll still want to restrict your runs. When your boat is running, there is tremendous wear on it due to acceleration, deceleration, waves, skipping, heat buildup, etc. The best setups minimize the effects of heat (the killer of boats). Obviously this is just a general rule, you can manipulate setups to get more or less runtime (and vary the speed, etc) but still you want to keep your boat life, so you restrict it. For instance, I've got a couple nice boats with excellent setups... I've got a MG with a great setup, very little heat, and plenty of speed for what I want in it. Have nice high end batts and could probably run 10 mins on it. However, I keep it at about 4-5 mins to maintain the boat ESC and batt life. The longer the run, the more the little things add up. This goes from the grease usage all the way to amp draw. 15 minutes at 60 mph is a long time, especially since you won't be running at 60 the whole time. You can find a setup with a proper kv and batteries but keep in mind... the little things add up.

    SO in summary, he's just throwing out a normal runtime for you... 8 mins.

      That actually makes sense. And believe me this is weird.....this is the first time in my long r/c history I've actually wanted to go slower! :D

      I want to bascially build a boat for a day at the pond with the fam. Something easier to pack around vs my 69" inline twin gas monster......something to still have fun with that will throw some serious roost and with the ease of electric.

      It just seemed like if the fast guys could do fast 160kph runs for 8-ish minutes I could pull half the mph for twice the run time. But what you say makes sense.

      What about keeping things cool with water cooled ESC's? I'm even going as far as saying what if I go way overboard on the ESC's so the amps I'm actually pulling don't hardly work the ESC's or make them break a sweat. That still doesn't help the drivetrain.......but even if I have to regrease every run or something I'm ok with that. This will be a once or twice a month driven boat with my schedule and other projects going on.

      That and I reallllllly want to build another HPR cat! :)

      Appreciate the info and your input! Defintely gives me new thoughts on this project.
